The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) announced that it has been informed by the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM), Gaithersburg, Md., that due a conflict with a major construction industry trade show, ACSM will be unable to co-locate its annual conference with GITA’s annual conference and exposition in 2008. The two organizations have agreed to postpone the co-location of their respective conferences to an as yet undetermined date.

Canadian agencies, organizations, and companies are invited to attend the Canadian Interoperability Day on Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario. The event is being hosted by ESRI Canada and GeoConnections—a national program led by Natural Resources Canada. GeoConnections collaborates with partners to expand and evolve the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI)—a resource that enables Canadians to share, access, use, and combine location-based ("geospatial") information over the Internet.

SeaZone Solutions Ltd, the UK’s leading supplier of marine data, has announced the completion of the first pilot area as part of its ongoing Coastline Mapping Improvement Programme (CMIP).

This is set to revolutionize our understanding of the relationship between land and sea. Using CMIP will resolve the serious inconsistencies arising from coastline data that is generated in different ways by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) and Ordnance Survey (OS) Great Britain.

The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) has recently completed a trial phase of the newly conceived ‘ONE’ – Online Notification and Editing System, an Internet based mapping solution designed in partnership with Geomatic Technologies (GT).

Over the last quarter of 2006 GT has designed and produced ONE to become an extension of the Victorian Mapping and Address Service (VMAS). The new features consist of services that provide spatial data editing capabilities (mark-up), user notification and application workflow management. These features complement the existing VMAS services of address searching, matching, map creation etc.

Maps of hospital locations in the United States are now available online through American Hospital Directory The site's free mapping service pinpoints all hospital locations according to user-selected criteria such as ZIP code, city or state. Links from maps also provide access to comprehensive profiles of each hospital.

DigitalGlobe(R) announced that it will provide to Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. the high-resolution imagery for Garmin's BlueChart(R) g2 -- its new line of highly detailed cartography. BlueChart g2 with DigitalGlobe imagery is one of the first electronic charting devices to give boaters unparalleled access to the world's highest-resolution commercial imaging system.

The Geospatial One-Stop (GOS) project encourages local governments to register and publish metadata for web mapping services on the GOS portal..

Increased availability of data and web mapping services through the GOS portal significantly supports local, state, tribal, and federal governments, and improves homeland security and disaster relief efforts across the country. It is widely recognized local governments make a tremendous contribution towards building the National Spatial Data infrastructure (NSDI).

Avineon, Inc., a provider of IT, geospatial, engineering and program management services, announced the appointment of Ramkumar Valliyur as director of engineering services. With more than 30 years experience in engineering operations, project management and strategic planning, Valliyur will lead business development efforts and serve as a liaison between Avineon's North American customers and the company's offshore engineering services facility located in Hyderabad, India.

Telvent Miner & Miner announces the availability of the ArcFM™ Solution version 9.2. Following the first anniversary of its launch, MapGuide Open Source has achieved a new status within the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) as a fully endorsed project. Originally developed as Autodesk MapGuide software by Autodesk, Inc. and released to the open source community in 2006, MapGuide Open Source is a Web-based platform that enables users to develop and publish online mapping applications and geospatial web services.

During its incubation process, the project's community of more than 600 members actively engaged in development and application efforts to validate the software's functionality, viability and support. As part of the project's graduation, Robert Bray, platform software manager and architect of geospatial solutions at Autodesk, has assumed the role of OSGeo vice-president -- MapGuide Open Source.

The First American Corporation, America's largest provider of business information, announced the release of ParcelPoint(TM), the next generation in geographic location technology that offers the most advanced solution for superior positional accuracy.

Multimap, one of the world’s providers of online mapping and location-based services, showcases the latest version of its leading-edge API service (version 1.2) at the Location Intelligence Conference 2007, San Francisco. The Multimap API v.1.2 brings together searching, routing, mapping, geocoding, and POI data and imagery, into a single one-stop service, for the first time. The API offers major new areas of functionality, including overview maps, smooth zooming and automatic de-cluttering of icons, and also takes Multimap’s mapping interface to a new level.
