Geotagging Software used by Intelligence Professionals Now Available Commercially

BRENTWOOD, Tennessee - Sept. 11, 2007 – Digital Reasoning® Systems Inc., the intelligence-software innovator, today announced the release of GeoLocator™, version 2.0.

GeoLocator 2.0™ promises commercial customers the same powerful geotagging tools that were built and are currently used by various US intelligence agencies.

The world is full of interesting and useful geographical location information inside of unstructured documents. Finding and aligning those locations with accurate geographical coordinates and other actionable information has proven to be a difficult problem. Until Now.

GeoLocator™ 2.0 is a precision-based tool that extracts populated places from unstructured text (i.e emails, instant messages, and other documents) and returns the extracted locations with their respective geo-coordinates.

The following are just a few of the new features and enhancements within GeoLocator™ 2.0:
  • Better performance ( at least a 200% improvement over previous versions)
  • Easier installation
  • User-defined custom gazetteer
  • Multiple interfaces, to include both a command line and GUI interface
  • Export function that can target XML, KML or any custom format
  • Various text markup options
  • Web Service and Java API Interfaces
  • Disambiguation
  • Better Reporting
Shortly after the events of Sept. 11, 2001, Digital Reasoning® approached the federal government, and offered its assistance in solving the analysis problem that exists with data that has no formal structure like emails, instant messages, etc. "We knew we could help, because we had been working on the analysis problem since 2000", said Tim Estes, CEO of Digital Reasoning® Systems, Inc. Within only a few months after speaking with the US Army National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC), we here at Digital Reasoning® were able to deliver a functional proof of concept that clearly demonstrated the capabilities of our technology. Furthermore, our solution delivered superior accuracy and a more flexible architecture at a fraction of the cost of our competitors.

"We see the release of GeoLocator™ 2.0 as coming 'full circle' in our mission to support the most vital needs of the Intelligence enterprise. With GeoLocator™ 1.0, we set new levels of consistent accuracy and precision last year. This year, we've made it easier than ever to have high quality geotagging that is now customizable to the locations of interest of our customers.  We've brought true 'plug and play' ease of use to adding your own locations or extending the system to fit the workflow of a customer's enterprise", said Estes. GeoLocator™ is just one of the many applications based upon Digital Reasoning's patented technology.

"The same technology we have developed that is being used by intelligence professionals in the Global War on Terrorism is now available and can be applied to any number of commercial problems", said Harry Schultz, Vice President of Product Development and Solutions at Digital Reasoning® Systems, Inc.

"When it comes to geotagging, other companies hold their customers hostage by forcing them to use a pre-defined and static gazetteer, or set of locations. We, however, wanted to give customers true freedom with our technology by allowing them to input their own locations as well as modify existing locations in the gazetteer", said Bill Day, Product Manager at Digital Reasoning® Systems, Inc. GeoLocator™ 2.0 is easy to use, works out-of-the-box, and is available at a fraction of the cost of competing solutions.
