AUSTRALIA, Sydney - November 21, 2007 — Goldenfields Water County Council has selected Munsys from Open Spatial Australia to better manage its water assets. Goldenfields Water County Council provides the essential water requirements of about 40,000 people spread over an area in excess of 20,000 sq. km. between the Lachlan & Murrumbidgee Rivers in the South West of NSW. Whilst the operation of all systems under Goldenfields’ control is being fully integrated, the infrastructure relies on five separate sources, each of which supplies into a separate area.
Munsys is an engineering solution that adds business intelligence and generally accepted best practices to maintaining and sharing engineering data for essential water and wastewater assets. Munsys ensures that engineering information is captured accurately and then shared with all traditional GIS users, allowing the entire organisation to add value to the data.
Approximately 90% of a water authority’s data is location based, and is usually difficult to locate underground. Munsys provides new technologies to determine how to isolate leaking pipes within a network so that the respective water sources can be turned off allowing field crews quick access to the affected area.
"Whilst our previous GIS provided an excellent platform for showcasing the value of spatial information within the organisation, the needs of Goldenfields Water have evolved. The need for network data integrity at point of data entry is at the core of Goldenfield Water’s requirements” commented Michael Troth, Manager Geospatial Alliance Project – Bland Shire, Coolamon Shire, Goldenfields Water, Junee Shire & Temora Shire Councils.
“Munsys offers an unobtrusive and user friendly means to that end. Open Spatial Australia has provided a sensible, staged approach to achieving network integrity. Value will be added utilising this core data as future stages are implemented. This will aid in areas such as accurate asset valuation, critical incident response and dramatically improve the overall customer experience.
The underlying Oracle Locator database dovetails nicely within our Spatial Consortium and will provide a single manageable source of data for all participant organisations.
The Executive has enthusiastically embraced the potential of the Munsys solution and together with Open Spatial Australia, I look forward to realising positive outcomes from this forward thinking approach." added Troth.
“Open Spatial Australia is proud to include Goldenfields Water in our list of regional water authorities” commented Anthony Jahshan, Managing Director of Open Spatial Australia.
“Regional authorities are challenged with reduced budgets from governments and regulatory pressures to improve efficiency needing to better manage our scarce water resources. Open Spatial Australia is helping authorities across Australia with the right Geospatial Solutions that are specific to their businesses.” added Jahshan.
