Portland, Oregon - GeoNorth is pleased to announce that the City of Zurich, Switzerland recently purchased CartoPort to improve their ArcIMS cartography and simplify their site maintenance. Zurich is the largest City in Switzerland and was recently named the City with the "best quality of life" in the world.
A recent spike in CartoPort sales, especially in the European market, demonstrates the commitment organizations have towards the technological and financial investment made by implementing ArcIMS based solutions. "Government agencies have already invested thousands of dollars into this technology, established applications, and have ArcIMS integrated with numerous business systems. CartoPort allows organizations to greatly improve the presentation of spatial data and simplify their site maintenance without having to re-tool web based systems. It can also greatly improve the presentation of ArcIMS services being provided through ESRI's WebADF", says GeoNorth Principal Marshall Payne.
Simply put, CartoPort allows users to publish their ArcGIS map documents to ArcXML. This MXD to AXL transformation occurs in seconds preserving cartography and settings such as scale dependency, layer visibility, transparency, fonts, complex lines and label properties just to name a few. MXD files can be processed interactively or in batch mode for organizations supporting a larger number of ArcIMS sites. Essentially CartoPort provides the ability for organizations to leverage the cartographic benefits of ArcGIS to the extent they can be accommodated within the ArcIMS platform. With the release of CartoPort 2.0 came some new and exciting enhancements that include the ability to accommodate a stretched classification for raster imagery and other rendering enhancements.
Recent organizations now utilizing CartoPort include the Provincial Government of Zeeland, Netherlands, City of Mercer Island, WA, Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority, Selkirk College, BC and many other organizations.
GeoNorth will demo CartoPort at the ESRI UC Conference in San Diego August 4th-8th. Please stop by booth #1606 in the vendor hall to see a quick demo and enter to win a free copy. For more information about CartoPort please go to
