February 28, 2008 -- Mayrise Systems has announced a new system to help reduce road congestion as part of new UK government regulations on street works. The system helps local authorities and utilities manage works under the Traffic Management Act (TMA) regulations coming into force 01 April 2008.

MAYRISE Street Works is the first such system to offer fully integrated mapping allowing a quick visual works locator, geographic sites analysis and forward planner. The mapping can also be extended into the field through mobile devices that inspectors can use to locate and check works locations, transmit reports and use to capture time-stamped photographic images.

MAYRISE Street Works provides full compliance with the TMA and the company plans to roll out the software to over 100 existing MAYRISE Street Works sites across the UK ahead of the 01 April deadline.

The TMA aims to reduce disruption on the roads through better management of street works. The advanced MAYRISE software manages all aspects of street works – the posting, receipt and routing of notices, updates and tracking of works status with automated alerts on over running works.

A key part of the new regulations involve a switch to XML web services under a new system called EToN 4. With extensive XML expertise developing customer contact solutions for local authorities, Mayrise Systems has pioneered a range of web-based data interchange options to assist local authorities and utilities with TMA implementation.

The UK government says that new regulations will allow councils to insist that utility companies give longer notice periods before starting road works. This will improve co-ordination and making it possible to prevent multiple works in the same area at the same time. Councils will also be able to impose conditions on works, such as a ban on rush hour working and will also be to operate a permit scheme - meaning that anyone wanting to dig up the road will have to apply for a permit that will set out specific durations for the work and conditions of how and when it is carried out.
