BOSTON – March 2008 – The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) has awarded Applied Geographics (AppGeo) a project to design and plan for an enterprise GIS implementation. AppGeo will evaluate SCAG’s current network, software, hardware, data, and applications, and will compare those findings with best practices at other Councils of Government (COGs) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) around the nation. Final recommendations for enterprise GIS will focus on improving performance, security, accessibility, and the user friendliness of applications, as well as addressing the challenges of managing a large, dynamic database that covers a six county region.
“SCAG is taking the development of its enterprise GIS seriously and as such recognizes the key role that proper planning plays in the development of these complex systems” said Michael Terner, Executive Vice President of AppGeo and Principal in Charge of the project.
“As the largest COG in the country, SCAG will benefit from a planning process designed to improve its GIS implementation,” said Rich Grady, President of AppGeo. “Our experience preparing strategies, setting development priorities, and integrating GIS with other business systems will help SCAG to build an efficient enterprise GIS framework.”
Supporting AppGeo on this project will be Farallon Geographics, a California-based GIS consulting firm.
