March 06, 2008 -- GRAZ, AUSTRIA — Vexcel Imaging GmbH, a Microsoft company, has signed a purchase agreement for an UltraCamX large format digital aerial camera system with Aero-Graphics, a privately owned photogrammetry business located in Salt Lake City, Utah and serving the Intermountain West since 1965. This UltraCamX purchase is the first digital sensor for Aero-graphics and was made to enhance its service offerings to its customers.
“We recognized the distinct advantages offered by digital cameras,” explained Casey Francis, Vice President of Aero-Graphics. “The quality of the imagery is higher, we can offer multi-spectral imagery, and by eliminating the processing associated with film, we are able to provide our customers a quicker turnaround on projects.”
Francis further explained the choice of the UltraCamX from among other digital sensors on the market. “We knew we needed frame technology to support the low-altitude, engineering type of work that we do, as well as a solution that would integrate seamlessly with our existing flight systems. The UltraCamX fit in our existing mount, interfaces with our Track Air system so there was no learning curve associated with a new system, and is frame-based. It was the obvious choice.”
“We are happy that Aero-graphics chose the UltraCam as the logical choice to transition from film to digital camera technology,” said Rob Agee, Microsoft Group Business Manager for the Vexcel Imaging GmbH business. “We believe the UltraCamX can be a critical component to their roadmap for success.”
About the UltraCamX
The UltraCam-X collects 216 megapixels per trigger to produce 14,430 across track and 9,420 along track pixels, the largest image format available, with a sustained collection rate of three gigabits per second. The camera maintains forward overlap of 70% at 3 cm pixels and 80% overlap at 5 cm pixels feasible at normal flying speeds. Meanwhile, the UltraCam-X system features a low-cost data flow that allows unlimited image collection in the air. Low-cost, exchangeable data storage devices store up to 4,700 images and can be swapped mid-flight for reduced ground turn-over time.
