British Fire Services Praise the First National FSEC Conference

07 March 2008 -- Training 4 GIS™, the training and consultancy division of The GeoInformation Group™, are pleased to report on the success of the first national Fire Safety Emergency Cover Toolkit (FSEC) Conference. With 70% of the Fire and Rescue Services represented the conference drew users of the FSEC Toolkit from every corner of the British Isles. The demand for delegate places was very high, with approximately one hundred delegates registering a full twelve weeks before the one-day conference opened in late February.

Feedback provided by the delegates has been glowing, with 100% of respondents confirming that they would attend another FSEC Toolkit Conference. Below is a selection of the many positive comments received:

“Excellent speakers made this event extremely worthwhile. Very good range of subjects afforded information sharing and best practice.” Jacqueline A Dawson, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue

“Excellent and informative” Lea Smith, Norfolk Fire and Rescue

“A most informative & fun-filled day; well organised and smooth running. Broad range of some complex issues covered, presented and delivered. Overall, a cracking day. Many thanks.” Chris Fry, East Sussex Fire and Rescue

“Good networking opportunity. Some thought provoking aspects to the use of FSEC and collection of data.” David Witty, Humberside Fire and Rescue

The conference formed part of the wider training programme that Training4GIS has devised. In 2006, Training4GIS was awarded a contract to develop a bespoke training programme for the FSEC Toolkit by Communities and Local Government. The successful training programme continues to provide a flexible, modular and sustainable approach, including three levels of training:
  1. Chief Fire Officer Briefings - to raise awareness of the benefits of the FSEC Toolkit to senior management
  2. Team Leaders Workshops – a two day course to inform and educate those who manage the team who provide the results of the FSEC Toolkit analysis
  3. Practitioners Modules –four modules to educate users in the methodology, practical use and potential of the FSEC Toolkit
The conference format was developed to enhance the learning experience of the FSEC users who had previously attended briefings, workshops and the practitioners modules. By providing further application-based demonstrations by their own peers and a valuable networking platform the delegates were able to share and promote best practice. Presenters included: The GeoInformation Group, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Innogistic, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and Communities and Local Government.

The Training4GIS team are looking into dates and venues for the 2009 conference, which will be announced in due course. Further information about FSEC Toolkit Training can be found at www.citiesrevealed.com/training4gis/fsec.
