Maponics® Unveils Postal Map Data Version 1.8.2, Including New ZIP Code Boundaries
April 15, 2008 - Maponics, LLC, the postal mapping leader, unveiled today the latest version of its nationwide ZIP Code and carrier route map data, which features significant advances over previous releases. Version 1.8.2 is based on clean and accurate boundary drawing that strictly interprets USPS data releases. It is also believed to include over 100,000 more carrier routes than are found in any other providers’ datasets.
After the former market leader in carrier route map data, Tele Atlas®, discontinued their product in 2007, Maponics leapt to fill the market’s need with an industry-standard product nearly indistinguishable from its Tele Atlas predecessor. With that accomplished, further improvements have now been made. The latest release contains over 640,000 mapped carrier routes, over 42,000 mapped ZIP Codes, and leverages several engineering enhancements.
As Maponics’ Cory Martin, lead developer of postal GIS products, explains, “Everyone knows that the USPS does not actually assign boundaries to carrier routes or ZIP Codes. To the USPS, carrier routes are simply collections of addresses served by one mail carrier and given the same carrier route number. ZIP Codes too, are collections of addresses. Our job is to tie these addresses together in a way that best represents the on-the-ground reality. To do this, we have engineered complicated algorithms to interpret and map the USPS’ monthly postal data reports. By rigorously following the USPS’ guidance, Maponics’ proprietary process generates the most accurate carrier route data on the market, with boundaries that follow streets and are easy to read.”
Postal carrier routes are a must-have for companies targeting direct mail campaigns. And Maponics ZIP Code boundaries serve a multitude of needs: sales territory creation, demographic analysis, direct marketing, web display and local search, to name a few.
Licensees of Maponics Postal Data span industries from Web 2.0 to direct marketing, real estate, government, and even other GIS companies. Distributors such as MapMart, Spatial Insights, Spatial Point, Empower Geographics and TerraNOVA are working with Maponics to provide this carrier route and ZIP Code data to additional end-users. Some of these distributors also offer Maponics Neighborhood Boundaries™, which allows carrier routes (or ZIP Codes) to be tied to actual neighborhood names. Maponics is the only postal data vendor to offer a compatible neighborhood data product of this type.
Every carrier route boundaries license includes:
- Residential and business routes, in both polygons and points;
- ZIP Code layers, at no extra cost;
- Postal delivery statistics appended to every release;
- A choice of formats: Shapefile, MapInfo, database loadable, WKT, or even custom formats;
- Flexible license terms to accommodate a wide array of applications;
- A 100% satisfaction guarantee – with a full refund available within 60 days.
“In addition to being a top-tier map data provider, Maponics has been an end user of postal data for nearly a decade. In fact, Maponics is the only place the United States Postal Service sends their business customers for maps and reports, through USPS.com.” says Steve Zuckerman, Director of Operations. “Because of this, we understand the nuance involved in carrier route boundary creation, and we require the most accurate data available. We developed Maponics Postal Data in large part because we were unsatisfied with the methodologies existing carrier route data providers are using and knew we could do better for our customers.”
