Agencies Have Access to the GIS Tools They Need to Enrich Business Processes with Geospatial Information
Redlands, California - June 19, 2008―The State of Montana has signed an enterprise license agreement (ELA) with ESRI that will provide unlimited quantities of ESRI geographic information system (GIS) software to the state's 26 agencies. The ELA also includes training and dedicated support contacts. With these resources, the state can more easily align business processes with its already strong use of ESRI GIS tools.
"This ELA is especially helpful to smaller agencies that, on their own, might not be able to afford the essential spatial software, training, and professional expertise necessary to support their applications," said Robin Trenbeath, Montana geographic information officer.
"Further," he continued, "The ELA saves taxpayer dollars by reducing software cost, escalating sharing of standardized applications among agencies, saving travel expenses, and contributing to the governor's 20 x 10 energy efficiency initiative by using consolidated on-site training rather than traveling off-site and by helping develop and maintain a cadre of experienced state GIS professionals."
Other benefits include
- Providing more citizen access to geospatially enabled applications
- Improving analytic tools for decision makers
- Increasing the private sector's ability to use state datasets for application development
"Despite Montana having a small population in a large area, our GIS community is very active, progressive, and forward thinking; this effort exemplifies the spirit of this community," said Bryant Ralston, ESRI's strategic account executive for Idaho and Montana. "This simplified licensing arrangement will allow GIS professionals to focus on properly aligning GIS technology with state business processes. In addition, it will empower the state to participate in building a Montana GIS Federation that will further benefit Montana's citizens."
The core technology for the ELA is ESRI's ArcGIS software, an open and interoperable technology platform that provides spatial analysis, geographic data management, advanced visualization and cartographic capabilities, and more. ArcGIS software is a complete system to author, serve, and use geographic information. The technology gets geographic information to those who need it, including analysts, decision makers, field staff, and the public, through its support of mobile, Web, and desktop clients.
