Sterling, VA, February 2009 – Infotech Enterprises America, Inc. (Infotech) is pleased to announce the Town of Amherst (The Town) has selected Infotech; through a competitive bid process, to develop a new base map including the acquisition of color and color infrared (CIR) imagery to produce orthophotos, capture of detailed planimetric features from that imagery, and the acquisition and processing of LiDAR data to assist in the development of new contour data.
This award is to deliver a high quality and detailed 1” = 40’ base map product to replace the base mapping data compiled in 1999. That original project included the Town, watershed land bordering Amherst to the east, and adjacent University of Massachusetts properties. The current project was justified by the need to capture data related to the 10 years of expansion of the University campus and the Town’s residential and commercial growth.
The current project has been designed as an 85 square mile regional project that will have the ability to empower applications for planning, engineering, operations, and administration including asset tracking, public safety, and economic development. To accomplish their vision, the Town has selected optional services that will increase the detail and accuracy of the final product. As part of the project vision, the area will cover portions of neighboring towns and several institutions.
Account Manager, Drew Meren stated, “This project will be an example for other projects within the New England Area. The Town will have the most up-to-date GIS populated with highly accurate spatial data.” Mr. Meren further noted, “Infotech is focused on helping the Town achieve their overall objective. Infotech is excited to be working with the Amherst community to continue supporting their current and future planning needs.”
Mr. Greg Tilley, Infotech’s Geospatial Division President added, “This award continues our string of awards in the New England area. I believe this award is a direct result of our efforts to deliver value and quality combined with an understanding of best practices in the GIS industry.”
