Parcel Coverage Surpasses 100 Million, Providing Organizations with Greater Insight When Making Critical Decisions

Troy, NY —September 29, 2009 — Pitney Bowes Business Insight, the leading global provider of location and communication intelligence solutions, announced today that its parcel coverage has surpassed the 100 million mark, covering more than 1,400 counties and 243 million people across the United States. Parcel boundaries and centroids provide the most detailed and accurate property location and identification available to organizations in a wide range of industries. Organizations that require precision geocoding and accurate property identification now have access to detailed information in more areas of the country. A variety of industries including financial services, insurance, telecommunications, and government, rely on parcel data to research and analyze property characteristics such as environmental factors, demographics, and tax jurisdictions.

Parcels have defined boundaries encompassing an area of land; the centroid identifies the physical location of each parcel. Precise location and the ability to analyze the characteristics of a property are key components when examining factors such as flood zones, impact areas, easements, rights-of-way, and land use. Pitney Bowes Business Insight parcel data encompasses a wealth of information, including address, Assessor Parcel Number, elevation, and land use. Integrating parcel data into daily operations enables organizations to achieve greater insight into the impact of location-based variables, helping improve asset management and increase operational efficiencies.

“We’re committed to the continued expansion of our parcel data coverage, to increase our precision geocoding capabilities and empower our customers with more detailed location intelligence analysis” said Bryan Sears, managing director of Data Development, Pitney Bowes Business Insight. “By surpassing the 100 million parcel mark, we are enabling organizations to precisely locate more properties across the country and gain a greater insight into each specific location, whether they’re looking to provide mortgage services, issue an insurance policy, or determine taxes.”

Pitney Bowes Business Insight’s parcel data is digitized and gathered from multiple government and third-party sources. Parcel boundaries and centroid geocoding data is integrated with several products, including GeoStan®, MapMarker®, Spatial+ ®, and Centrus ® Web Mapping Services, and can be visualized through applications including MapInfo Professiona® and Microsoft Virtual Earth®.
