NAVTEQ has announced that Mobile Devices has chosen to utilize NAVTEQ data globally in its line of dedicated and standardized platforms for fleet management and telematics applications. Mobile Devices is using NAVTEQ maps for Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific for PND navigation applications, hence the map data will also be employed in Mobile Devices' Dreevo connected PNDs, which are available direct to consumers and also as an integral part of the company's enterprise solutions which include white label application stores and its technology "Screen Share".

The Coalition of Geospatial Organizations (COGO) announced that the Coalition recently endorsed a resolution urging the Obama Administration to take action to improve K-12 education in geography and geospatial skills. COGO endorsed a slightly modified version of a similar resolution proposed by the Association of American Geographers, a COGO founding member.

Safe Software announced the successful completion of a prototype spatial data transformation solution that supports the requirements of the European Union's INSPIRE Directive. In conjunction with Metria AO Cadastre of Sweden, the FME-based INSPIRE prototype will be unveiled at the INSPIRE Conference 2010 from June 22nd to 25th, 2010 in Krakow, Poland. Now INSPIRE stakeholders are able to meet their goal of providing good governance through sharing spatial information across Europe - making it easily and transparently accessible - and do so with readily-available technology.

Acquisitions, Agreements, Alliances

Tactical Communications, provider of technology and services for emergency and disaster communications, announced an agreement to distribute Surveylab's Ike1000 series of geospatial field data collection tools in Texas. Texas-based municipal and federal public safety agencies are leveraging emerging GPS and GIS technologies to help measure, monitor, and manage their assets.

RapidEye, the only geospatial solutions provider to own and operate a constellation of five identical Earth Observation satellites, announced that Panaxx Corporation will be its distributor in Japan. Panaxx is the fourteenth company to join RapidEye's quickly- growing worldwide distribution network.

CNL announces a strategic technology partnership with ESRI (UK). The partnership will help businesses become more profitable and public service more efficient through a better understanding and analysis of location-based information.


The U.S. Geological Survey provides new levels of access to map products and tools for oil spill response and recovery operations.

To assist in responding to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the U.S. Geological Survey has developed a new tool to rapidly distribute the latest USGS topographic maps of the Gulf Coast region.

Once the magnitude of the spill became known in early May, experts at the USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC) sprang into action to create the Emergency Response Map Index Tool (ERMIT), an event-specific application that provides quick access to standard USGS mapping products - Digital Map-Beta and US Topo - for the region.

OpenGeo announced that the Ocean Biogeographic Information System ( OBIS) has selected OpenGeo Suite Enterprise Edition to replace their existing geospatial mapping tools. The product is a fully-integrated, open source geospatial platform for manipulating maps and data that provides enhanced capabilities like the ability to edit vector data through a web interface, imagery delivery and customized web application development. OpenGeo will provide unlimited support and bug fixes for PostGIS, GeoServer, OpenLayers and the rest of the open source platform to help OBIS extract intelligent data more easily from its 27 million record database and improve the ease of use for its global audience.

New Products

Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, announced the GPSMAP 62 series of rugged outdoor handheld devices, bringing a sleek updated look, new mapping options and many technical innovations to a product line beloved by hunters, hikers and geocachers of all ages.

CoreLogic announced that its industry-leading property level dataset now covers 3100 tax roll counties representing 99.8 percent of the U.S. population and 98.7 percent of all counties. With this expansion of county coverage, CoreLogic now exceeds its closest competitor by 1,000 counties.

NAVTEQ released findings of its most recent U.S. advertising trial that shows the potential of its LocationPoint Advertising network in converting click throughs to paying customers.

The findings cap a months-long U.S.-focused trial of NAVTEQ LocationPoint that showed advertisers posted a click-through rate (CTR) high of 2.49%--more than 13 times the .19 average of online banner ads(1). More important, the NAVTEQ trial found that of those consumers who clicked on location-intelligent ads, 39 percent clicked through for additional details including turn-by-turn or step-by-step directions to the advertised merchant's retail location.

The states of Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, and South Carolina are now providing easy-to-use maps that show in detail each state's broadband coverage. The interactive, online maps are made possible by BroadbandStat, an application based on ESRI geographic information system (GIS) technology, and will help the states plan and improve high-speed Internet access for their residents and businesses. The BroadbandStat maps were funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and contribute to the comprehensive national broadband map that NTIA is required by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to create and make publicly available by February 2011.

GeoEye, Inc. announced that it has imaged all 2010 FIFA World Cup venues located in South Africa. This year's international tournament is scheduled to take place June 11 - July 11 and marks the 19th anniversary of the games and Africa's first World Cup event.

SuperGeo Technologies develops a mobile GIS application for investigating the ecological environment in Hsiang-Shan Wetland. Through the collected data, analysts can effectively predict the impacts on the environment from economical development and meanwhile monitor the carrying capacity of development.

Scan/US, Inc. offers a combined file of postal carrier route locations and demographics for use in GIS mapping products such as ESRI's ArcView and Pitney Bowes's MapInfo.
