July 23, 2010 -- The Region of Veneto in Italy has completed the first phase of its spatial infrastructure built on Intergraph® spatial data infrastructure (SDI) technology and will now implement phase two of the project. The SDI project will improve access to spatial data across the region for streamlined operations and enhanced collaboration.
The first phase focused on the design and set-up of the technological infrastructure to store, catalogue and search for spatial data, as well as a Web application to easily access and visualise the data. The central common infrastructure has now been created, as well as foundation tools and rules for sharing spatial information easily and in accordance with industry standards.
Given the scale and cutting-edge nature of the project, its implementation is delivered in stages to ensure constant monitoring of progress and control, particularly during key phases. Realisation of the second phase will deliver capabilities that enable Veneto’s SDI to operate as a regional node both within Italy’s national SDI as well as international infrastructures.
For the second phase, Intergraph will focus on the organisational workflow design to integrate the spatial information produced by different departments within Veneto. This phase will also include the generation and publishing of metadata, the validation of spatial datasets according to predefined rules to guarantee their accuracy and reliability, and the identification of the functionalities necessary to manage the publishing workflow. This will have a number of beneficial outcomes and deliverables, including: simplified processes that produce, acquire, validate and publish data to the Regional SDI; management procedures and methods that standardise and simplify data maintenance and updates; and, addressing the Region’s increasingly high demand for geospatial data.
Intergraph’s SDI application ensures harmonised geospatial data exchange within the enterprise and between government, businesses and the public for improved communication, collaboration, productivity, ease of maintenance and reduced costs.

About the Region of Veneto
Veneto is the eighth largest of the 20 regions in Italy, and is home to the capital city of Venice. Its population is roughly 4.8 million, and it is the most visited region of Italy. Veneto is also one of Italy’s wealthiest and most industrialised areas. More information on the Veneto Regional Authority can be found at www.regione.veneto.it.
Intergraph is the leading global provider of engineering and geospatial software that enables customers to visualise complex data. Businesses and governments in more than 60 countries rely on Intergraph’s industry-specific software to organise vast amounts of data into understandable visual representations and actionable intelligence. Intergraph’s software and services empower customers to build and operate more efficient plants and ships, create intelligent maps, and protect critical infrastructure and millions of people around the world.
Intergraph operates through two divisions: Process, Power & Marine (PP&M) and Security, Government & Infrastructure (SG&I). Intergraph PP&M provides enterprise engineering software for the design, construction and operation of plants, ships and offshore facilities. Intergraph SG&I provides geospatially powered solutions to the defence and intelligence, public safety and security, government, transportation, photogrammetry, utilities, and communications industries.
