PCI Geomatics - Committed to Image-Centric Excellence

September 2010

Welcome to the latest issue of Footsteps and Futures, our semi-annual newsletter. In this issue, we take a look back at some of the events of special interest to PCI and its users and look forward to the next six months.

Before we begin, I would like to reflect on the passing of Dr. Robert Moses. “Dr. Bob,” as he was known to all of us here at PCI, was an industry pioneer and leader. With his passing, the remote sensing industry has lost one of its greatest leading minds. Imagery was Bob’s passion and PCI Geomatics intends to keep that spark alive through our dedication and determination to deliver world-leading software and solutions.

Monitoring the earth's natural and anthropogenic activities through the analysis of remotely sensed satellite and aerial images is vital to a deeper understanding of our planet. Accordingly, PCI Geomatics remains committed to developing technology that further enables this comprehension.

As PCI continues to grow and develop more and more sophisticated technology, we are seeing customers using imagery in a myriad of ways—from monitoring and reporting environmental changes, to its application in agriculture, public safety, security, and more. As the use of geospatial data and imagery increases, so does the need for an effective approach to transform raw data into useful geospatial information. Through 2010 and into 2011, we will continue to advocate our think bigger mantra as PCI expands and continues.

GeoImaging Tools for ArcG IS® Version 2.0 is now available!

PCI Geomatics has recently announced the release of GeoImaging Tools for ArcGIS®, version 2.0. Offering accurate and highly automated tools for correcting raw satellite imagery, GeoImaging Tools is revolutionizing the integration of remotely sensed imagery into GIS workflows.

The release of GeoImaging Tools version 2.0 coincides and integrates directly within ESRI’s recently released ArcGIS version 10 software. With the GeoImaging Tools Image Correction Module, ArcGIS users will benefit from rigorous, automated multi-sensor support and be able to correct raw imagery using sensor model information, optionally with automatic GCPs and tie points from reference data such as chip databases, reference mosaics, or vectors. Higher levels of registration accuracy are achievable via block bundle adjustments. Users also have the option of saving the correction parameters and create mosaic datasets for direct use with ArcGIS for on-the-fly processing reducing data duplication.

Geomatica Version 10.3.2 has been released!

This past spring, PCI announced the availability of an upgrade to Geomatica®, our remote sensing and image processing software. Version 10.3.2 is the latest release available, and it includes additional satellite sensor support in addition to enhanced functionality.

Satellites supported in this release include HJ-1A/B, the first 2 sensors of the Chinese Environment and Disaster Monitoring Microsatellite Constellation. Upgrades to the math modeling have also improved the overall accuracy of Radarsat-2 correction using the Toutin model with no GCPs; an accurate, alternative solution to the RPC model.

Additionally, Geomatica 10.3.2 includes upgrades to PCI Geomatics’ existing ATCOR, atmospheric correction capabilities.

Both Windows and Linux editions of Geomatica 10.3.2 are available.

Support for Linux

You’ve asked us to continue to support Linux, and we are committed to doing so. We polled our Linux users and discovered that 92% plan to continue to use Linux for the foreseeable future.

The result was more than enough to solidify our commitment to support this platform and ensure that it is available with other updates.

Training & Resources

In order to provide you with a constant stream of support, PCI will continue to populate our library of web based training and resources.

Our FAQ list has also been refreshed and newer products, like GI Tools , are now available for a FREE trial download.

This year also marked the launch of PCI TV and PCI Tech TV , an online archive of PCI news and product videos that introduce new products and demonstrate how they’re used.

Also available are online Tutorials and archived product Webinars .

We have no doubt that these resources will provide PCI users with the training and support material they need—and when they need it.
