Trimble Acquires 3D Laser Scanner Leader - MENSI

Paris, January 12th, 2003. MENSI announced the official closing of its acquisition by Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB). MENSI is now the business area within the Trimble Geomatics and Engineering (G&E) Division responsible for 3D laser scanning solutions (hardware and software).

The acquisition of MENSI by Trimble, which was one of the major announcements at Intergeo 2003, is now closed. MENSI's 15 years of experience and leading position in the 3D laser scanner industry has lead to the creation of a new business area within the Trimble group. Tristan Grimbert, President and CEO of MENSI, heads the business area within the G&E Division of Trimble, reporting directly to Bryn Fosburgh, Vice President and General Manager of the division.

The business area, 3D Scanning Solutions, provides laser scanners and software packages to the survey and construction markets. At Intergeo, MENSI also released the new GS200 laser scanner and a new version of the RealWorks Survey software. These are premier solutions in the industry offering significant productivity improvements.

The MENSI sales team has been integrated into the Trimble sales organization in order to leverage its distribution network with laser scanner technology. Mr. Fr餩ric Jacqmin, Vice-President of Sales at MENSI, said "The integration of the sales team benefits customers as does the addition of 3D laser scanners in the Trimble Toolbox of surveying systems. Trimble products in combination provide best suited solutions for each application, and an integrated sales force ensures an efficient and seamless interface between Trimble and its customers for the full range of Trimble solutions." He adds, "Laser scanning solutions are adapted to the surveying market and also to the civil engineering, power & process, and manufacturing markets, etc. The experience MENSI's sales force brings in sectors not traditional to Trimble generates real perspectives for growth in laser scanner sales in 2004."

The acquisition provides Trimble with laser scanning technology that will change the way surveyors work by transitioning from a point-based data collection method to the measurement of the size, shape, and form of an object or scene.
