Datatrac Streamlines Expedited Freight Delivery with GPS-Enabled Cell Phones and ESRI's Internet Mapping Technology

Hospital Shared Services Maximizes Logistics Efficiency With GeoTrac(TM)

ATLANTA—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Aug. 23, 2004— Datatrac Corporation ( www.datatrac.com), the leading solutions provider for the expedited freight industry, today announced at its 2004 Users Conference that the company has teamed with ESRI, the world leader in the Geographic Information System (GIS) software industry, to offer Datatrac customers added visibility and increased logistics efficiencies. Datatrac's wireless solutions run on Motorola GPS java-enabled phones, while its Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) application, called GeoTrac, is built on ESRI's powerful ArcIMS GIS server software.

As an early adopter of GeoTrac, Hospital Shared Services (HSS), a company specializing in healthcare deliveries and other medical transports, has realized significant improvements in efficiencies to both its dispatch and driver operations. In just six weeks, HSS Courier has already shown marked improvement in efficiencies as a result of Datatrac's AVL solution.

Cindy Lusietto, Director of Courier Services, HSS Courier, said, "As a medical delivery courier, it is imperative that we are as efficient as possible with our dispatch operation. Before we started using GeoTrac, if a driver didn't call in and his times weren't entered into our system, the dispatchers had a very difficult time manually tracking 25 drivers at one time." Lusietto continued, "With GeoTrac, we can zero in to street level and determine the closest driver to an emergency situation and rapidly re-deploy that driver to cover the emergency."

GeoTrac combines the power of Motorola's GPS handset capabilities with ESRI's ArcIMS server software. Datatrac's custom Java application delivers GPS location coordinates over the iDEN wireless data network to ArcIMS. In the back office, ArcIMS processes GPS handset locations and adds dynamic street-level maps, addresses, and points-of-interest to Datatrac's dispatcher web-based console. The combined solution provides Datatrac's users with an easy-to-use and inexpensive business tool to track mobile resources, manage work orders, and streamline location-based operations.

By adding AVL technology to eTrac, Datatrac's real-time logistics network, Datatrac's courier and cartage agent customers will be able to proactively manage their pickup and delivery processes and optimize the use of driver and vehicle resources through advanced reporting and real-time GPS tracking features.

Running on commercially available Motorola i58sr, i88, and i730 phones, Datatrac's Wireless eTrac solution connects dispatchers and drivers in real time. Complete job information is received over a Java-enabled phone application, eliminating radio wait time. Drivers can update job information in route over their phone, without repeatedly trying to access busy dispatchers. By sending real time shipping information throughout the delivery chain, the Datatrac end-to-end routing solution allows shipments to be tracked from pickup to delivery. It not only speeds communication, but also is cost effective. Jobs are dispatched more quickly, customer inquiries are responded to more promptly, more on-time deliveries are made and accounts are billed faster.

Datatrac CEO, Dennis Hogue, said, "ESRI is an industry leader and we welcome the opportunity to collaborate and deliver best-of-breed solutions to shippers, freight forwarders and delivery service companies. Datatrac has a long history of helping companies maximize logistics efficiency, and will continue to search out new opportunities that help extend the value proposition of our products."
