CARIS Web-mapping Portal for City of Summerside Economic Development

September 17, 2004 -- CARIS today announced the successful launch of a web-mapping application that will foster economic development for the City of Summerside in the Province of Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada.

The City of Summerside, with geographic information consulting and support from GeoNet Technologies Inc. (PEI), selected CARIS to provide an Internet solution to distribute property and real estate information to interested developers with minimal operational and maintenance costs. The solution is hosted at

Through a browser-based environment, the application developed integrates information about property in the city, along with demographics and business information from a mixture of disparate systems. The information is presented through interactive maps containing dynamic site search information.

“This application allows professionals and developers who are interested in our city to have direct access to the information they need,” explains Mike Thususka, Director Economic Development, City of Summerside. “This translates to less time spend by staff to carry out specific information requests. Moreover, interested businesses and professionals are in control of their information searches, and we receive more informed phone calls with questions about specific properties.”

The city’s web-mapping segment of their economic development web site is based on CARIS Spatial Fusion software. Spatial Fusion enables owners of spatial information to deliver their information to users throughout their organization and to the public, maximizing the use of existing spatial and corporate data assets, regardless of the format or location of this data.

Celebrating its 25th year of operations, CARIS provides comprehensive, integrated, spatial information management solutions for land applications, including land records management, cadastral mapping, geology, and web-mapping To learn more visit
