Philippe Durand Appointed to Lead Magellan Consumer GPS Business in Europe; Philips Consumer Electronics and Texas Instruments Executive to Lead Sales and Marketing Efforts of Magellan Brand in Europe

SANTA CLARA, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Sept. 13, 2005— Thales today announced the appointment of Philippe Durand to lead the sales and marketing efforts for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region of its Magellan consumer business. Durand joins Thales' consumer business from Texas Instruments where he served as vice president of its Education and Productivity business and led the company's entry into new educational markets around the globe.

Durand is charged with the growth and profitability of all Magellan brand consumer product lines in EMEA, including content and mapping, outdoor handhelds and vehicle navigation solutions.

During his tenure at Texas Instruments, Durand served as business manager of Texas Instruments Europe and Asia. In Europe he was instrumental in significantly increasing Texas Instruments' market leadership and profitability.

Durand started his career at Philips France where he excelled in increasingly more responsible sales and marketing positions, ultimately expanding his role and serving as global software group manager of Philips International BV in Eindhoven (NL).

Durand holds a master's degree in business administration from l'Ecole Des Hautes Etudes Commerciales du Nord in France.
