Portland, Oregon—December 14, 2005—Geographic Technologies Group, Inc. (GTG), a leading provider of professional GIS services and software for local government, is pleased to announce the successful implementation of an Internet mapping application at the City of West Sacramento, California.
The West Sacramento online GIS is an in-house-developed ArcIMS site that provides citizens as well as City staff members with the ability to view and dynamically map many of the City’s GIS data layers. The City’s General Purpose Map includes high-resolution aerial photography, tax parcels, streets, zoning, land use, and water features as part of a comprehensive map that allows users to interact with a map and identify relevant features. The map is linked to several backend databases, providing the ability to “drill-down” through various tiers of information, including parcel ownership, parks, and City facilities.
Additional functionality included with the City’s General Purpose Map includes pre-defined searches for parks and facilities, as well as dynamic links to online registration and other City web sites.
The online mapping application reflects the hard work and dedication of staff in the City’s Information Technology Department. The online GIS reflects a “quick success,” as outlined in the City’s Strategic GIS Implementation Plan developed by GTG.
“The City of West Sacramento continues to provide a solid example for how an organization can effectively implement GIS in a well planned, phased approach” said Andres Ferrate, GTG’s Vice President of Business Operations. “The City’s online offering is a great service to the public, one that highlights how quickly an organization can realize benefits from its GIS.”
“We are very excited about the release of our GIS Internet site and opportunities to work with our strategic business partners, and citizens, utilizing our
GIS information and tools” said Drew Gidlof, Information Technology Manager for the City of West Sacramento. “There are unlimited possibilities to the challenges we can overcome with our GIS system. Without the assistance of GTG when we were establishing the strategic direction for our GIS system, we would not be at this juncture.”
