Ottawa, OH -- March 23, 2006 -- Putnam County Board of Elections and International Computer Works, Inc. (ICW) today announced that ICW technology has been implemented by the Putnam County Board of Elections, Ohio for the delivery of sample ballots to voters for the upcoming May, 2006 State Primary Election. Additionally, local races and issues will appear on various ballots in the May 2, 2006 election. Those items which are specific to the voters that qualify to cast a vote on those unique ballot styles will be able to study their choices on the sample ballots. The internet based delivery system includes a lesson plan to encourage teachers in Putnam County Schools to bring this information into the classroom. Students will be able to print ballots specific to their household address and run mock elections.

“This is the first time in the history of our county that we have been able to offer this level of customer service to our voters,” said Ginger Price, Director of the Board of Elections. She further explained, “We hope this will help to better inform our registered voters and at the same time impress upon our young people the importance of participating in elections. Our registered voters will be able to use these sample ballots in advance of going to the polls. With a completed sample ballot in hand we expect it will be easier for our voters to use our new voting equipment thus spending less time in front of our new machines. This should reduce any lines that we may experience at our polling places and help to increase voter turn out. Anyone can visit our website at http://putnam.noacsc.org/county/ and click on the Maps and More link to access our data.”

ICW's GeoElections WebTools, provides elections officials with the tools necessary to deliver elections information in addition to sample ballots through interactive maps. It is likely the only system of its kind available to the elections industry today. ICW has been supporting clients with the use of this product since the 2002 election.
