Korean GIS Firms Rushing into Patent Applications (Korean IT News)

September 06, 2006 -- In line with adoption of new technologies and equipment used for geographic information systems, or GISs, companies are rushing to file for patents.

Hanjin Information Communication said Tuesday that it won a total of 10 patents for its proprietary 'black-and-white and color film developing system.' The new patented system is designed to process both black-and-white and color film at the same time, improving user convenience significantly compared to the existing products used only for white-and-black or color film.

"We developed a new system for both black-and-white and color film, and added such enhanced features like developing-out paper processing and a conveyer belt," said Lee Sang-jin, manager of the company who is registered as a patent holder.

With the breakthrough technology, Hanjin IC has been winning higher scores in biddings for major GIS systems. The company also filed for 6 patents on its 'aviation laser measuring data-based ground level extraction' technology.
