October 2, 2006 - -SeaZone Solutions Ltd, the UK’s leading supplier of marine data, has been awarded the prestigious AGI Technical Special Interest Group Award 2006. The national prize recognises the achievements of SeaZone’s innovation team and its drive to create a definitive geographic dataset that will help its customers save time and money.
An independent panel of experts selected SeaZone from a pool of more than 50 companies at the AGI exhibition. The judges considered a range of criteria including how SeaZone’s data will enable improved customer service and its potential to revolutionise working practices.
SeaZone’s vision to develop a more sophisticated base dataset will enable GIS users to achieve more consistent, transparent and detailed marine models. This set the company apart from the other exhibitors, highlighting SeaZone’s commitment to best practice.
Tim Warr, Principal Consultant at Ordnance Survey and a member of the independent panel, said: “The need to integrate and share geo-spatial information has been recognised for many years. SeaZone has taken a major leap forward to bridge the gap between the mature terrestrial market and the up-and-coming marine GIS sector. This will encourage common standards and a single language for the planning and management of the UK’s assets.”
Dr Mike Osborne, Managing Director for SeaZone, added: “We are delighted to receive the prestigious award. It recognises SeaZone’s forward-thinking approach to marine GIS and how improving data integrity can become a reality. We are already working with many public and private sector companies across the country and will continue to pioneer for a more joined-up approach that will enable better informed decision-making during the planning and management process.”
The prize will be formally presented at the AGI awards, which will take place on 23 November at the Institute of Directors in London.
