October 4, 2006 -- Calgary, Alberta, Canada— North West Geomatics Ltd. today announced that it has successfully completed 3 forestry projects in the northern USA and Canada with the new Leica ADS40 Generation II sensor system. These areas total approximately 12,000 sq/km and were flown in July/August of 2006. The purpose of the data collection was for detailed forest inventory programs in these regions using proprietary, semi-automated individual tree crown process.
“The ADS40 with SH52 sensor head allows for high resolution stereo color and false-color infrared imagery which expands the product range of the ADS40-II further into the crossover between photogrammetry and remote sensing applications. Also, the new sensor is much more sensitive capturing 12 bit information at very short integration times, which allows better quality imagery to be acquired much faster than previously possible, while also extending the ADS40-II into the 5cm product range.” stated John Welter, Vice President, North West Group. “Leica has really listened to market requirements with the ADS40-II. The result is the highest performance commercially available airborne digital sensor on the market.”
"The data obtained from this new technology is allowing us to fulfill 100% of the high resolution imagery we need for our 3D R-MAP forest inventory analysis and mapping technology both here and abroad", stated Rob Cormier, President R&B Cormier Inc. & CEO R-MADA Systems Inc., Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada.
"The ADS imagery from North West is far superior to any other we have used to date for the 2D individual tree crown (ITC) analysis we provide to R&B Cormier Inc." commented Michel Guerin, Remote Sensing Specialist for CLC-Camint Inc & iCtrees Inc. of Gantineau, Quebec, Canada.
North West was the first company in North America to purchase and transition to the ADS40 technology and continues to maintain its technology leadership through its involvement with this next generation system. During this coming winter season North West will be upgrading all of its current ADS40 systems to the Generation II configuration for the 2007 season.
