PlanGraphics Advises Getty Conservation Institute on GIS Database of Iraqi Antiquities

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Oct 30, 2006 -- A small Kentucky company under contract to The Getty Conservation Institute ( in Los Angeles, PlanGraphics, Inc. (PINKSHEETS: PGRA) has completed an assessment of the Iraq Cultural Heritage Site GIS (geographic information systems) Database, which is a part of the Getty Conservation Institute's Iraq Cultural Heritage Conservation Initiative. The GIS database is ultimately intended for the use of the Iraq State Board of Antiquities and Heritage to help improve the management of its cultural heritage priorities.

PlanGraphics' GIS assessment project included:

--  Consultation with various interested parties in the U.S., Jordan, and
--  Development of a report presenting preliminary findings and
    recommendations for improving the Getty Institute's GIS database,
--  On-call technical advice on as as-needed basis.
The Getty Conservation Institute's Iraq Initiative "aims to mitigate threats to and repair damage sustained by Iraq's cultural heritage, and to rebuild the country's professional conservation and heritage management capacity."

GIS is most often considered to be an information system capable of capturing, storing, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced data identified by location and producing useful information for better management of resources.
