March 18, 2008 -- 1Spatial is pleased to announce the involvement of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), the geospatial industry standards body, at their 2008 Conference: 1 Source of Truth’, being held from 29th April to 1st May at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Stansted Airport, UK.
1Spatial has been involved with the OGC for over 10 years and currently chairs the OGC Technical Committee's Spatial Data Quality Working Group (WG). This WG has been gathering information and requirements from OGC members for the past year and has now begun primary research on spatial data quality measures. Their survey on spatial data quality went live in October 2007, targeting thousands of geospatial data suppliers and users from around the world. The collated results from this survey will be presented at the 1Spatial Conference.
There will be a WG presentation as part of the Conference Tracks on Day 2. 1Spatial’s Seb Lessware, Chair of the WG, and Blue Marble President Patrick Cunningham, the WG Vice-chair, will go through the aims and objectives of the survey and present the results. Athina Trakas from OGC Europe will also be available to discuss activities in this area, as well as be on hand to answer general queries about OGC Membership.
The WG seeks to develop an interoperable framework or model for OGC Quality Assurance Web Services that will enable improved access and sharing of high quality geospatial information. To achieve this goal it was necessary to learn what organisations mean when using the term "spatial data quality". The results of the survey will provide a solid foundation for developing relevant terms of measure and a powerful spatial data quality model.
Sam Bacharach, Executive Director, Outreach and Community Adoption at the Open Geospatial Consortium commented:
“Industry events provide an excellent forum to learn about the value of standards collaboration. Spatial data integration and data quality are areas that have cost the industry a great deal of time and money and it is a testament to the OGC process that the Data Quality Working Group exists and has managed to garner so much interest.”
Graham Stickler Product & Marketing Director at 1Spatial added: "The Conference is an educational forum to promote learning and raise awareness in the geospatial and IT community. Having prestigious organisations such as the OGC involved will help us achieve that goal. Organisations across the supply chain can benefit from assessing data quality, certifying their spatial data as fit for purpose and monitoring it on an ongoing basis. The Conference will highlight how this is possible.”
Sponsors for the 1Spatial Conference 2008 include Autodesk, Blue Marble Geographics, eSpatial, HP, Informatica, Infotech, Intergraph, Safe Software, Salford GIS and Tele Atlas, with Oracle as the event’s Platinum Sponsor. The Conference is set to deliver a comprehensive learning package for everyone working with spatial data, from expert Practitioners, through to Programmers and Chief Executive Officers. Focused discussions, presentations and workshops will help delegates to use their spatial data more effectively and efficiently; our comprehensive agenda will also include topics around integrating spatial data and building Spatial Date Infrastructures (SDIs).
