Atlanta, Georgia - November 7, 2001 - GeoComtms in the USA announced today that it has entered into an agreement to provide the tmsRouter vehicle route optimization software to save costs for Valley National Gases, Inc.
Valley National Gases, Inc. (VNG) (AMEX symbol VLG), is headquartered in Wheeling West Virginia and delivers pure, mixed or liquefied industrial gases, as well as fuel, bulk propane and specialty gases in all grades and levels of purity. In addition, VNG provides an array of welding supplies and other related products and services. VNG has committed to test run the tmsRouter software at one of its larger facilities before rolling it out company-wide.
According to Richard A. Hersick, Vice-President of Distribution, "In early 2001, VNG executive management launched a program to achieve significant cost savings over the next three years. All operational areas and department managers were tasked with identifying cost savings opportunities. Out of this program, we felt there were opportunities within Operations/Logistics to improve routing and delivery. The areas of improvement we are looking to prove with GeoComtms are:
- Improve truck utilization
- Reduce routes and miles driven
- Reduce overall delivery costs".
Mr. Hersick is responsible for a system-wide streamlining of all operational activities at Valley's 68 locations in 11 states throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Mid-Western regions of the United States. He will also oversee the efforts of the company's Regional Operation Managers to ensure the highest level of customer service.
"We are seeing a renewed interest in projects like vehicle route optimization where there is substantial hard cost reductions in a short time frame," commented Christopher J. Russell, President of GeoComtms in the USA. "In this economic climate companies are looking for quick wins that have strategic impact without the risk associated with larger projects. We promise fast ROI and large efficiency gains. Most of our clients, especially these days, are skeptical. The onus is on GeoComtms to prove the value, and we do. Valley is another example of how we put our products on the line and prove it", concluded Russell.
