New GIS Data Collection Software for Windows 7

April 06, 2011 -- New Windmill 7 software collects readings from GPS receivers and up to nine other devices over RS232, RS422, RS485 and Modbus. The software comprises ready-to-run applications to chart and log data, control equipment and send the spatially referenced data directly to mapping software, a spreadsheet or database.

The new software is offered at an introductory price of £50 (57 Euro, 80 US$), a 65% discount on older versions. Technical support for life is included in the price and there is a money-back guarantee if the software doesn't live up to expectations.

Windmill works with instruments communicating with ASCII or binary messages. With a flexible approach to extracting data values, it is suitable for collecting readings from the majority of serial instruments which can be plugged into the computer's com port. These include fluorometers, particle analysers, sonar, gas analysers, oxygen electrodes, gyro compasses, pH transmitters and digital thermometers.  All spatial and attribute data is time- and date-stamped on collection.

Users have the freedom to mix and match equipment from many different manufacturers in many combinations. For example, serial devices from Ashtech, Garmin, Funaro, Magellan, Motorola, Turner Designs and Siemens have all been handled by Windmill. Many channels of data can be accepted from each instrument.

Windmill Software is a British company established 1991. They specialise in data acquisition and control systems using Windows software.
