Welcome to the June edition of the 1Spatial eNewsletter.

I hope you are all enjoying good weather wherever you are reading this in the World. Our most recent activity has involved us in several milestone activities this month. In June 2009 we delivered a major phase of the Geospatial Database and Data Management system at Ordnance Survey Great Britain, which was a stunning effort by our internal team and our partners. We also presented our Tried & Tested™ approach for INSPIRE at the GSDI World Conference/3rd INSPIRE Conference, which is the culmination of a lot of work on the JRC INSPIRE testing and our efforts in ESDIN. Both of these activities are underpinned by our automated approach for solving business problems based around geospatial data. We use object oriented technology and rules-based methodologies for tackling such issues, which means we can offer flexible and very scalable solutions. Our capabilities, software and skills, have been developed over the last 25 years and so we believe that more people should be aware of them! In addition, with our partners IDOX we were awarded Phase 3 of the Scottish Executive's planning portal this month.

In July we are a Platinum Sponsor of CC The Exchange. This is part of the Cambridge Conference series which is the main gathering for senior executives of national mapping and cadastral organisations from around the world. Entitled ‘Mapping: our role in a turbulent world’, it aims to foster discussion and determine possible actions in the GI community to alleviate the problems brought about by the economic issues we face. The risk to our global environment will also be addressed, with a keynote speech by Professor Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency. 1Spatial is very proud to be a Platinum Sponsor alongside Digital Globe, ESRI and Oracle. On Thursday 16 July we are running a Generalisation Workshop entitled: "From Research to Reality including ROI" - at The Winchester Hotel. This workshop will highlight that organisations can benefit now from generalisation and that it is more than a research activity. There will be some customer presentations at the workshop and all the presentations will be made available on our website after the event. 1Spatial staff will be at this event all week in mid-July and will be available to discuss:

  • Building sustainable production workflows to deliver trusted data
  • Automating data generalisation for consistent and frequent product updates
  • Delivering solutions to transform and validate data, ensuring information is accessible and easily shared

And finally for those of us who go out in the midday sun and may be suffering heat delusion, but are assured we have a clear strategic direction for managing geospatial data processes, please cast your votes in the Directions Magazine survey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=r7PeX4HcvoTR8GVGWrG_2byQ_3d_3d

Thank you for reading this month’s edition of the 1Spatial eNewsletter and we hope to continue working successfully together with you.

Stepping Forward On Building SDI Capacity in Europe
By Vector One
Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) are moving forward across Europe and other places around the world. 1Spatial, a company based in the UK, has decided to step forward more fully as a private company into what some think is only government territory. That is not the reality. SDI will reverberate across the entire economy and impact government, institutions and private industry.
