Wrapping Up Another Successful INTERGEO The Optech booth at INTERGEO 2013 this October was a hotbed of activity, with experts and surveyors from around the world coming to visit. Tuesday and Wednesday were especially busy, as visitors discussed new technologies in the Optech product line with our product managers, such as real-time data visualization in Optech FMS Nav and the new Lynx MG1 Mobile Mapper™, which marks our expansion into the mapping-grade survey industry. Visitors were especially interested in the DiNelly gyrocopter with an Optech Orion ALTM and GSM 3000 installed on the tradeshow floor, which let customers get an up-close look at this new, low-cost platform for surveying.
Disaster Response for the Costa Concordia Shipwreck Check out the latest issue of Lidar News for an article on how Italian Optech distributor Codevintec surveyed the wreck of the Costa Concordia by combining an Optech ILRIS Terrestrial Laser Scanner and a Teledyne RESON SeaBat multi-beam echosounder. Mounted on a research vessel, the system used the ILRIS and SeaBat to map the wreck both above and below the surface of the water in a single pass, and employed specialized software to merge and visualize their data in real time. Codevintec provided the final data to the crisis team within hours of their arrival at the scene, letting them look at the ship’s position on the seabed and analyse its stability.

Class 1 Eye-safe Orion C300-1 for FAA Rotorcraft In October, Optech unveiled the
Orion C300-1 ALTM, designed as a Class 1 eye-safe laser product. This new sensor was designed to completely address concerns expressed by the FAA regarding the eye-safe use of Class 3A, 3B, and 4 lidar systems in rotorcraft without losing the performance and small-target detection of the original C300. With the Orion C300-1, surveyors can now perform fast and precise corridor surveys while maintaining eye-safety and regulatory compliance.

Without any user intervention, OPMMS conducts regular surveys with the ILRIS, compares the results to a baseline, and alerts the operator of dangerous changes in the target. Best of all, with remote access users can automate a permanently mounted ILRIS and download results from the safety and convenience of their offices.
Unified ILRIS Scan Software Suite Another ILRIS upgrade is the
ILRIS Scan software suite, a new control, processing and analysis application developed in co-operation with Gexcel Srl. With ILRIS Scan, users can handle the entire ILRIS workflow with a single integrated application, from performing the survey to georeferencing and analysing the results. Advanced versions of ILRIS Scan expand its capabilities even further, enabling users to integrate an external camera, perform meshing, calculate cut and fill volumes, and create change-detection maps.

Introducing Our New Worldwide Channel Partner Manager Optech is pleased to announce that we now have a Worldwide Channel Partner Manager for Terrestrial Laser Scanner Products, Dario Conforti. In addition to his role as a 3D laser scanning specialist, Dario will work to expand communications between Optech and our dealers and distributors, and standardize their technical skills for consistent service to our customers.
