VLS Releases LIDAR Analyst 4.1 for ArcGIS

October 12, 2006 -- MISSOULA, MT – So you have LIDAR data. Now what? Are you ready to move beyond merely visualizing your LIDAR and into real 3-D geospatial analysis? Do you want to map your buildings in 3-D? How about knowing the location and types of your trees? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a highly accurate terrain surface? After all, these features and more are easily accessible from your LIDAR data with the LIDAR Analyst software product from Visual Learning Systems Inc. (VLS).

VLS’ new release of LIDAR Analyst 4.1 is now available to automatically extract features and more, in a simple and straight-forward manner. LIDAR Analyst completely automates the collection of attributed 3-D buildings, trees, forested regions and bare earth from airborne LIDAR. New capabilities include direct processing of point clouds in .LAS format, extraction of realistic 3-D buildings with complex rooftops, and access to a suite of 3-D Shapefile editing tools.

“People spend money on LIDAR, giving them significant returns of light, the new release of LIDAR Analyst gives them significant returns on investment.” states VLS President Dr. David Opitz, “Without LIDAR Analyst, customers are either forced to use their LIDAR for visualization only, or accept the features data providers deliver with no ability to fine-tune, alter, or improve. Now, with LIDAR Analyst 4.1, each customer has full power and control over exploiting their LIDAR data.”

Free evaluation copies of the LIDAR Analyst software including a tutorial are available at www.lidaranalyst.com
