GIS Day 2006 takes place on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, during the National Geographic Society’s Geography Awareness Week, November 12-18, 2006. GIS Day celebrations educate millions of children and adults in more than 90 countries on the benefits of geography and the role GIS plays in its support of geography.

The goal is to make people aware of the substantial contributions that GIS technology is making in their community everyday, during the eighth annual worldwide GIS Day™. GIS Day is a global event where thousands of users of geographic information system (GIS) technology open their doors to schools, businesses, and the general public to showcase real-world applications of this exciting technology.

“The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre is pleased to host this event and involve local high school students and post-secondary students to raise the awareness of GIS technologies,” said Paul Beach, GIS Program Manager, Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre. “GIS technology has a wide variety of applications that provide tangible benefits to communities, industry and government organizations and we will demonstrate this to the students through interactive and informative presentations.”
