Slopes, Sharp Turns, and Speed (ArcUser Online)

The Slope/Turns Exercise The challenge in this exercise is to build the street dataset to display slope in percent for the Burnaby Fire Department’s service area. The department is building a new fire hall. Fire Hall 7 will serve a large area in central and western Burnaby. Burnaby’s irregular terrain includes slopes of more than 15 percent. To properly model time-based travel, a slope correction factor for steep streets was developedand field-tested. The slope adjustment, together with global turn rules, was applied to posted speed limits to calculate valid travel times and define optimal response areas.
