AccuWeather.com, a commercial weather service, announced that its 2005 Hurricane Center, is now available on its free web site at
www.hurricane.accuweather.com. Internet users now have the most accurate and up-to-date hurricane information at their fingertips for the official start of the Atlantic Ocean hurricane season.

Spot Image announces that its Australian Distributor, Raytheon Australia, will supply the New South Wales (NSW) Government with high-resolution satellite imagery covering the entire State. The imagery will be used by the NSW Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources for management of infrastructure, emergency response and natural resources.

PCI Geomatics® announced the creation of the PCI Geomatics Center of Excellence at Boston University's Center for Remote Sensing.

The Center of Excellence will focus on several themes, including natural resource management, place-based decision support and prototyping exercises for business. The new software by PCI Geomatics will also assist the University's goals in its continued research to improve the understanding of groundwater distributions in hot desert areas, such as Egypt.


Intergraph Corporation announced Empresas Publicas de Medellin E.S.P. (EEPPM), Colombia's multi-utility company, is upgrading its FRAMME-based geofacilities management system to Intergraph's G/Technology(TM), the next-generation enabling core of a Geospatial Resource Management (GRM) system. EEPPM manages and maintains five distribution networks - electric, gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications for 2.5 million customers throughout Colombia. The open architecture of G/Technology will enable EEPPM employees to easily leverage and share data, further streamlining day-to-day activities and processes for provisioning and maintaining its service delivery networks.


RGS President, Sir Neil Cossons, presents Ordnance Survey's Elaine Owen with the Geographical Award. Ordnance Survey has won a prestigious award from the Royal Geographical Society for its Free Maps for 11-year-olds initiative. The Society - which aims to advance geographical learning - conferred the Geographical Award "for providing outstanding non commercial support for school pupils learning geography".

NASA's Science Mission Directorate has selected 23 projects that will harness Earth science data to improve decision-making processes. NASA will contribute approximately $22 million over the three-year life of these projects with national organizations that include water management, public health, air quality, ecosystem stewardship and disaster management. Intergraph Corporation announced the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) recognized Intergraph's mobile resource management (MRM) platform based on IntelliWhere TrackForce with a 2005 iAward. The AIIA award honors the most innovative product or solution for developing any software or hardware application, which is commonly used by enterprises or business entities to improve efficiency and productivity. ESRI, the world leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, announced ArcGIS Network Analyst is now available. This new extension provides network-based spatial analysis including routing, travel directions, closest facility, and service area analysis.

MapInfo Corporation, global provider of Location Intelligence solutions, announced the availability of MapInfo Professional® version 8.0. MapInfo Professional enables companies in all industries to easily visualize the relationships between data and geography to drive more insightful decisions.

MapText, Inc. has added new advanced user controls to its unique Label-Contour software, the Company announced . Label-Contour is an extension to MapText's flagship product Label-EZ and is compatible with all major GIS systems. It places the elevation (or depth) labels for a contour map according to precise cartographic requirements. Placement is completely automatic and performed in a matter of seconds.

QUALCOMM Incorporated, provider of wireless data solutions, announced the commercial launch of versions 6.2 and 6.2.3 of its FleetAdvisor fleet management solution for the private fleet market. Both systems provide customers with a near real-time connection between their back office -- including management, dispatchers and customer service representatives -- and their vehicles and drivers, with version 6.2.3 designed with features necessary for larger customer fleet operations. FleetAdvisor 6.2 and 6.2.3 support full-function, on-board computing and applications, including automated Department of Transportation-compliant logs; automated arrival and departure alerts; and automated
state mileage and GIS mapping. FleetAdvisor and other on-board applications run on the MVPc(R) in-vehicle computer, which uses the Windows(R) CE platform. FleetAdvisor also works with other QUALCOMM systems, including the OmniTRACS(R) and OmniExpress(R) mobile communications systems.
