ESRI and Trimble are pleased to announce the
10 winners of the
Mobile Government Grant Program: Coastal Communities Edition. The grant program has been established to help
government agencies create models for the development and implementation of innovative GIS and GPS applications aimed at improving government processes. Beginning in December 2006, the grant winners' applications will be posted as public domain templates for
ArcPad on ESRI's
website. From there, the scripts can be accessed and freely downloaded.


Tele Atlas(R), a global geographic content provider, and Wcities, a producer of multilingual destination guides for more than 1,900 cities worldwide, announced a value-added reseller (VAR) agreement under which Tele Atlas will relicense Wcities content with its digital map database.

The United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), the first and only organization aimed at bringing together the many disciplines in the geospatial intelligence sector, announced it is seeking feedback from stakeholders in industry, academia and government on the draft curriculum guidelines and accreditation standards for the USGIF Geospatial Intelligence Certificate Program.

The U.S. Department of Labor has identified geospatial technologies as one of 12 "high-growth" industries. The proposed accreditation by the USGIF Academy for academic-based Geospatial Intelligence Certificate courses and programs will help guide this "high-growth" industry by ensuring the competencies of geospatial intelligence professionals entering the field and providing relevant continuing education opportunities for the workforce.

Contract Awards

NAVTEQ, global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has been chosen by the Norwegian Ugland IT Group to provide map data for a range of products including internet and GIS applications. In addition to integrating the map data into its own solutions, Ugland will act as a reseller to its business and government customers.


Avineon, Inc., a successful provider of IT, geospatial, engineering and program management services, announced the promotion of Raghu Ganeshan to President of Avineon India Private Limited (AIPL), the India-based subsidiary of Avineon, Inc. As president, Ganeshan holds direct responsibility for AIPL's operational affairs in engineering, computer-aided design, geographic information systems (GIS) and IT services. Since its founding in 1998, the subsidiary has grown from employing twenty to a current staff of more than 350 employees.

CompassTools Inc., a provider of GIS field data collection tools, is pleased to announce that Trimble has doubled the size of the U.S. sales territory in which CompassTools is certified to sell Trimble Mapping and GIS products. To manage the new sales territory, CompassTools welcomes Del Stewart, a long-time GIS industry sales professional, who will open a new CompassTools sales office in Minneapolis, Minn.

GeoEye announced that Timothy J. Puckorius, senior vice president of International Sales and Marketing, is leaving to pursue other opportunities. He will continue to support the company as a consultant and strategic advisor on key international programs. The company also announced that Paolo E. Colombi will immediately assume Puckorius' day-to-day functional role as head of GeoEye's International Business Unit.

OneGIS is pleased to announce that it has hired Mr. Changming Du as Chief GIS Architect to head up the company's efforts in web services and assist in the development of OneGIS applications and integration tools. Mr. Du will be responsible for overseeing the configuration and installation of web-based Geographic Information Systems using ArcGIS® Server and ArcIMS® from ESRI as well as third party applications and add-on tools developed by OneGIS. He comes to OneGIS from another ESRI business partner where he was a developer and team leader responsible for developing numerous web-based and desktop applications for the oil/gas pipeline and utility markets.

Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp will demonstrate and launch the latest versions of its Internet/intranet-based GIS, GeognoSIS.NETTM Version 6.3, mobile GIS software, mSIS® - mobile Spatial Information System® Version 6.2 and the new Cadcorp SIS OS MasterMap® Integrated Transport NetworkTM (ITN) Manager product at the AGI2006 conference and exhibition being held at the Business Design Centre in London on 12-14 September.

GeognoSIS.NET Version 6.3, mSIS Version 6.2 and the Cadcorp SIS OS MasterMap ITN Manager are scheduled to begin shipping in early October.

McObject has released eXtremeDB-64, the 64-bit version of its eXtremeDB 3.0 in-memory embedded database for geospatial applications, real-time enterprise software and embedded systems. eXtremeDB-64 supports databases that are hundreds of times larger than the 32-bit version, providing a powerful new tool for systems that demand instantaneous sorting, retrieval and manipulation of massive databases.

TatukGIS announced the release of the .NET® edition of its GIS Developer Kernel product supporting .NET manageable code for Windows Forms. The Developer Kernel .NET is available as a free trial version download from the TatukGIS web site, along with 45 DK.NET samples in C# and VB.NET code.
