Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC), Pakistan has been recognized for excellence in the geographic information system (GIS) field with a 2006 Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) award at the Twenty- sixth Annual ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, California. This award is the very first for Pakistani company and SSGC is indeed proud and privileged to be recognized as the flagship for Pakistan's GIS Application for utility services.

ESRI presented this award to SSGC on August 9, 2006 due to its outstanding performance, dedication and commitment through the use of GIS technology. SSGC has been chosen out of more than 150,000 organizations worldwide. The entire SSGC's GIS system has been developed from scratch in-house.


NAVTEQ, global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, has been selected as a primary map data provider by the US Government. NAVTEQ will provide road network and standard points of interest data under a government-wide enterprise license to numerous Government agencies supporting US homeland defense.

SANZ announced that the Marine Corps Intelligence Activity (MCIA) has selected EarthWhere to incorporate its large scale data management capabilities into its service production facilities at Quantico, VA.

MCIA is a recognized "Center of Excellence" of Expeditionary Intelligence and provides the Marine Operating Forces with intelligence in support of operational and pre-deployment planning, training and exercises. MCIA is fully integrated into the Defense Intelligence Analysis Program (DIAP).

Galdos announced a new contract to develop an urban spatial data infrastructure (SDI) within the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The urban SDI will enable public and private agencies to share mapping data and to distribute data changes and updates in near real-time. The objective of this project is to enable users of the system to significantly reduce data redundancy cost and increase productivity through access to timely data.


New cartographic functions in ArcGIS 9.2 that will make producing maps easier will be demonstrated during a free ESRI live training seminar offered on the Web in October.

Introduction to Cartographic Representations at ArcGIS 9.2 will air from the Training and Education Web site at on October 12, 2006, at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. Pacific daylight time.

ESRI launched a new, streamlined
Training and Education Web site this summer to help GIS professionals find all the company's educational resources in one location on the Internet.

The user-friendly
website replaces two Web sites that separately handled registration for instructor-led classes at ESRI learning centers and the Virtual Campus training conducted via the Internet.

ESRI invites students, educators, and administrators in the United States from K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and libraries and museums to submit their original lessons using
geographic information system (GIS) software to the 2006 ArcLessons Challenge for a chance to win one of six cash awards. The winners' lessons will be published on the
ArcLessons website as well as several other resource sites. Submissions are due by 4:00 p.m. on October 16, 2006.

Up to six awards will be distributed for high-quality lessons that help students and educators learn about real-world applications of geospatial technologies. The ArcLessons Challenge includes one award of $2,500, two awards of $1,000 each, and three awards of $500 each for the best entries. The competition is open to United States residents who are 18 years of age or older and are individual students or faculty, on teams of students and faculty, or educational program developers.

ESRI announced that BusinessMAP Financial, a new, industry-specific version of its BusinessMAP database mapping software, is now shipping. Packaged with data from ESRI and datasets specifically designed for the financial services industry by RPM Consulting, a leading financial services data provider, BusinessMAP Financial provides extensive data and interactive features.

LeadDog Consulting, LLC announced the release of detailed geographic databases of major roads for Honduras and city streets for Tegucigalpa to support military, government, asset-tracking, and commercial GIS applications. Designed to deliver accurate positional data, assist organizations track their assets, and provide accurate base level mapping. LeadDog's product provides numerous vector layers and attributes such as:

- Streets at 1:10,000 scale

- Street names

- Street classifications

- Extensive Points of Interest (airports, hospitals, government offices, etc…)

- Water and Landmark polygons

- Political division and borders

Archetype, Inc., a rapidly growing leader in remote wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) data communications, announced the commercial availability of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) edition of its TerraTrace GPS/GSM asset tracking system.

TerraTrace is an asset tracking and monitoring solution that provides true real-time location and status information for mobile assets. TerraTrace uses a small, onboard GPS/GSM tracker/transmitter device which communicates position coordinates and other sensor data to TerraTrace's secure data center. The data is then made available to authorized users via a secure Internet connection.

East View Cartographic (EVC) announced the company's launch of a new and updated e-commerce site for sales of worldwide maps and geospatial data. The site, known as 'EVC Store', allows customers to browse availability of products and place orders 24 hours a day. EVC Store currently includes global topographic map series, worldwide DEM coverage, geological maps, vector maps, related books and atlases, with imagery and nautical charts to be added in the near future. Orbit Geospatial Technologies presents Orbit GIS 4.1 for Windows on 32bit and 64bit machines. The Orbit GIS Desktop solution now comes with over 80 new and improved functionalities. Download a copy
