RMIB Geosciences out of The Netherlands. Below we also share a sampling of map and data acquisitions made in the past 30 days.
RMIB Geosciences was a global distributor of scientific maps and related publications, specializing in the difficult-to-acquire cartographic publications of Asia, Africa and Latin America. During its impressive history, RMIB Geosciences (earlier Rudolf Muller International Booksellers) was the first company to bring to market topographic maps of Indonesia, East Timor, Rwanda, and other exotic locations. RMIB reliably served hundreds of libraries and organizations in Europe and beyond, and EVC looks forward to continuing this service tradition with an even wider range of print and digital maps from countries all over the world.
The application deadline for
URISA’s prestigious Exemplary Systems in Government (ESIG) Awards is rapidly approaching. Submissions must be received by May 12, 2008 to be considered. The awards recognize exceptional achievements in the application of information technology that have improved the delivery and quality of government services. Applications may be submitted in two categories, Single Process and Enterprise Systems.

ERDAS announces a new series of free webinars, beginning Thursday, April 24 at 12 p.m. and 9 p.m. EDT (GMT -4). The first webinar will highlight the new features included in ERDAS IMAGINE® 9.2.

British Cartographic Society has announced the dates and location for its Annual Symposium. Under the banner of Mapping 2008: Making the Most of Maps, the residential conference will take place from the 03 to the 06 September, inclusive, at the Harben House Conference facility in Newport Pagnell, UK. This annual event, which has been held every year since 1963, was last year given a total revamp offering delegates a new format and content including a wide choice of topical presentations together with a program of interactive workshops.
NAVTEQ Corporation, a global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, will release its first quarter financial results after market close on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. In lieu of a conference call, management will provide a PowerPoint document containing supplementary information, which will be available at investor.navteq.com.
Trimble announced that
Openreach, the local network division of BT, one of the world's leading providers of communications solutions and services operating in 170 countries, has extended its Mobile Resource Management (MRM) contract with Trimble for an additional three years.
With the three year contract extension, Openreach will continue to use Trimble's Taskforce automated scheduling and route optimization solution to manage more than 20,000 of its mobile engineering workforce, helping to improve customer service and reduce operational costs.
Astrium has been appointed by
ESA to be the prime contractor to build Sentinel-2, the first optical satellite in the Sentinel series. The main industrial contract worth €195 million was signed by Volker Liebig, ESA´s Director of Earth observation, Evert Dudok, CEO Astrium Satellites and Uwe Minne, Astrium´s Director of Earth Observation and Science in Friedrichshafen (Germany).
Timmons Group, a leader in ESRI ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Mobile Applications Development, announced that theVirginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has contracted with them to develop ArcGIS Mobile solutions for Environmental and Transportation business needs. VDOT, as part of their planning, construction and maintenance process, must carefully track their wetland remediation sites to ensure compliance with the appropriate state and federal regulations. The ArcGIS Mobile Solutions will enable VDOT’s mobile workforce to be more productive and collect more accurate and timely information to support VDOT’s mission. Timmons Group will be expanding the number of applications to include HAZMAT, Cultural and Natural Resources, and Noise features in the near future. The ArcGIS
Mobile solution includes workflows to support field data capture by VDOT Environmental staff and will leverage ArcGIS Server Replication to their Enterprise GIS database.

ERDAS announces the release of ERDAS TITAN Web Cache Servers, adding performance to data sharing within ERDAS TITAN 2008. Recently released, ERDAS TITAN is a dynamic online solution that allows users and communities to share geospatial data, web services and location-based content internally and externally to an organization, and to a variety of client applications.
When implemented, Web Cache Servers enhance the performance of an ERDAS TITAN GeoHub. A Web Cache Server scales as a function of data volume and users, and supports large numbers of users over a broad geography.
