Open Source Remote Sensing This site hosts and supports various open source software projects related to remote sensing, GIS, mapping and advanced image processing. See the Project links for a list of the various projects and their associated web pages and download areas. Remotesensing.org uses the tiki-wiki engine for online collaboration. Nevada Bureau of Mines There are three files for each of the 68 30x60' quadrangles in Nevada: an Image file (*.tif), a World file (*.tfw), and a Metadata file (*.fgd). The Image file can be opened in Adobe Illustrator 7.0 and the Image file with the World file can be opened in Arcview. You should download the World file to the same directory as the Image file. 4
The Society of Cartographers The Society was founded in 1964 at the University of Glasgow and was originally named the Society of University Cartographers. In 1989 the Society adopted a new title and constitution opening up membership to all in the cartographic community. 0
National Land Survey of Finland The roots of Finnish land survey go back to the 17th century, when the open field system was used to divide arable land. In 1633, Queen Christina ordered land survey to be conducted and cadastral maps to be drawn to facilitate taxation in Sweden. Opening Session at ESRI Conference 2004--Day One - By Susan Smith The plenary session of the ESRI Conference 2004 kicked off with a familiar message from Jack Dangermond. He charged attendees with getting to know one another, as the week would focus on sharing knowledge. This year's theme, "The Language Of Geography" was used to denote that we use languages to describe our world, and geography is being seen as a new language. ESRI is 35 years old this week, and is still debt-free and profitable, with 1,000,000+ seats of software and 4400+ employees worldwide. 0

Day Two - ESRI Conference 2004 - By Susan Smith After Monday's opening day, the reporting of the ESRI Conference takes on a strange shape as the reporter tries to pick from the various events occurring across the convention center and simultaneously visit countless product booths to make sure that the most important news is covered. The news from Tuesday includes coverage of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Plenary and the plans of Tele Atlas after the acquisition of GDT in early July. 0
