Raster calculator: multiplication or addition Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

Hi All,

Could someone explain me when one should use multiplication (*) and when addition (+) ?

I understand the technical difference between the two, input rasters will be either multiplicated or just added to each other. Could someone give me examples for both?

Am I right thinking that usually you should be using addition,  e.g. vegetation layer + roads. Is multiplication used in special cases only, e.g. if you have some conditional statements and need to combine the layers which classify something to be either right or wrong? What happens if I use multiplication for two "normal" layers?

Thank you!
