BusinessMap Discontinued? new Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

I recently discovered that ESRI has unceremoniously discontinued their BusinessMap product. Has this left any of you looking for alternatives? Does anyone have any insight as to the reason for this action? This product has served me well for several years and it is indeed curious that it would be killed off. I would think they have a fairly large user base by now. The only competing product in this market space appears to be Microsoft's MapPoint and this product does not appeal to me.

A reprint of a 2005 comparative review of business mapping software under $500 is available here: http://www.Caliper.com/PDFs/Online-Mapping%20Solutions.pdf

i agree, i really miss this program, MapPoint doesn't give you the same info or ability to manage multiple layers of regions. . .

someone send me some links to my other options. . .

I have Arc GIS, but 35 people at my company used BusinessMAP and the difference between $350 and $2000 is to much multiplied by 35. . .

Very true!

Map point can't provide actual information on multiple layers of some region. You can also create base map of that particular region.

An affordable and similar alternative would be the Maptitude Mapping Software for US$695: www.MappingSoftware.com

We are the creators of Maptitude, and are just down the road from your MA office (we are in Newton). We would be happy to discuss your options.

The first thing that struck me was that it is hard to understand the role this product has in the overall scheme of things. It is immediately compared to viewers from Google and others that have more functionality and greater data access.

That is a shame of course and there are many alternatives for sure. But what makes me wonder is, is it possible to mod the base program for BusinessMap? There are many talented modders out there who could continue the project on their own. There is a question of sourcecode of course and copyrights. But is it even possible or am I daydreaming?
