merging point layer with parcel shapefile new Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

Please help,
What I am trying to accomplish is gather all the well sites within a county by parcel, i.e., all well sites within each parcel. I have the map made. The well sites were created using "Add X-Y data" in the tools pull down in ArcMap. The shapefile is the parcels of Garfield County, CO.

I need to somehow either survey or analysis this data and pull out all the "points or wells" within each parcel.

Can I do this without having ArcEditor extention? This is urgent, please help. Much gratitude in advance!!

You can use Union or Intersect overlay analysis. Union will combine all attributes and geographies. Intersecting the points with the polygons wiil add the polygon attributes to the point table. You could then query out the points per parcel. If you don't want to create a new shapefile, you could just use the Select By Location function to select all points withing selected parcels.

By the way, where did you get the Garfield County parcel shapefile? I am looking for that myself...

Try to use the spatial join function. Right click on the well layer and go to joins & relates. You should be able to assign the parcel ID (assessment number) of the parcel to each point this way. It will be a field added to your point file. You can do a summary on the point files this way.

In addition to this you can export this file to a table and relate this table to the polygon (parcels) layer. You can now relate the two using the parcel id number.

You won't be able to join the points to the parcels because you could have more than one well in each parcel, correct?

Let me know how you make out.
