Learning to Script Report this article as Inappropriate to us !!!Login to Reply

Hi,

I'm an environmental sciences student taking three semesters of GIS throughout my program. But, my courses mostly focus on analysis and mapping, and I'm interested in learning a little programming to supplement my well honed data entry and digitizing skills:) I'd like to start teaching myself some basic programming language that would help with scripting and web-publishing of ArcView projects.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good language to get me started? Also, any good books for teaching your self that language? I have little knowledge about programming, I know a little about HTML and Avenue. I was hoping to build a website this summer as a way to teach myself. Would this be a good introduction to the types of languages I might use in GIS?

Cheers
