Blom captures innovation with further applications of unique aerial imaging tools

November 28, 2011 -- Blom has announced further benefits through the company’s unique cost-effective and time-saving suite of tools packaged in the recently-launched BlomMETROTM technology.

The complexities of data capture, especially whilst captured in a high speed, high altitude environment, provides many challenges. Combined with an economic austerity, Blom UK launched the unique package combined within the BlomMETRO suite, to provide an even better set of customer-centric solutions within the aerial imaging and digital mapping sectors, as Blom UK’s LiDAR Manager Hamish Grierson comments:

“Blom has a long history of owning and operating a range of digital cameras and sensors across Europe. Traditionally, these instruments would be run independently, even if multiple formats were required.”

“The demand for higher quality resources, and the need for improved data capture efficiency, has seen the long-established techniques of aerial surveying put under the microscope recently.”

“Some of the immediate benefits of using the dual capture data systems within BlomMETRO technology include reduced costs, reduced carbon footprint (as our flight time is lowered), faster delivery of data to our clients, as well as data of the same age within both photographic and LiDAR capture, due to our introduction of further innovations.”

The Blom UK offering via BlomMETRO also encapsulates use of 4cm Ground Sample Distance (gsd) aerial photography – rather than the typical 20cm levels within the industry, meaning that Blom UK provides ultra-clear vertical viewing. There is also the facility to deliver one metre post-spacing LiDAR – essential for the very best city-wide coverage. 3D models can also now be provided.

The BlomMETRO suite can be enhanced with bespoke data, such as flood modelling and solar potential mapping, offering a level of commercial flexibility previously unseen in the industry.

False colour and near-infrared can be included – this is of particular interest for environmental studies, giving dual capture via the BlomMETRO package wide-ranging appeal and practicality.

The introduction of such innovation within the BlomMETRO package makes it a truly innovative, industry-leading suite of solutions, as Grierson concludes:

“This creates a high specification suite of aerial imagery data products, creating a unique and up-to-date dataset of urban areas – which we believe is unrivalled in the industry at this point in time.”

Blom will be demonstrating the advantages and benefits of BlomMETRO at the upcoming Mapping Showcase 2011 event, as part of this year’s London Mapping Festival. To find out more please join us there.
