AeroGRID Signs Agreement with BKG for Aerial Imagery of Germany

July 09, 2012 -- AeroGRID has announced a new licensing agreement with BKG (Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie), the German government’s federal provider of orthophotos and mapping. The agreement enables AeroGRID to distribute high resolution 20cm orthophoto data of all Germany via WMS and also sell the imagery offline.

The AeroGRID WMS web server now plays host to 3 million square kilometres, of continuous high-accuracy aerial survey date covering 16 countries in Western Europe, as well as South Africa, the USA and Canada. AeroGRID can also provide, on demand access to 600,000km² of mapping quality data from 8 other European nations as well as worldwide satellite image data.

WMS is the standard protocol for streaming georeferenced map imagery over the Internet to web based applications, GIS and CAD software. WMS feeds only load the imagery that a user needs to see rather than a whole dataset. It is a very convenient and efficient way for customers to access AeroGRID’s growing library of high resolution imagery. AeroGRID customers can also have WMS access to worldwide satellite imagery to complement AeroGRID cover at very reasonable rates.

“We continue to extend our aerial coverage and improve the resolution of the data.  We are also determined to make access as simple and convenient for our customers as possible,” said Miles Taylor, General Manager. “BKG brings us up to date with high resolution and above all high-accuracy aerial data for the whole of Germany that engineers and planners can trust for their mapping needs,” continued Taylor.
