Fleurette's Oil of DRCongo Opens New State-of-the-art School in Torges

TORGES, Democratic Republic of Congo, July 14, 2015 — (PRNewswire) —

As part of its commitment to community welfare and social activities Oil of DRCongo, a Fleurette Group subsidiary, has built the children of the remote Province Orientale village of Torges and surrounding areas a new state-of-the-art primary school.

Recognising the importance of education, Oil of DRCongo has funded the construction of the school with a grant of around $250,000.

At the inauguration ceremony Oil of DRCongo also supplied the students with school materials.

In May 2010, Fleurette subsidiaries and the DRC Government signed a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) for oil exploration and production of Blocks I and II of the DRC side of the Albertine Graben.

In addition to operational, technical and environmental activities required to explore and evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of Blocks I and II, Oil of DRCongo has been investing heavily in social and development activities, including this school, the secondary school in Jiba (for 600 students), the refurbishment of the most critical sections of the Bunia-Kasenyi Road and supporting the Kasenyi Medical Center. To date it has invested nearly $4 million in social and development projects, significantly above what was required under its PSC.

The nearby Lake Albert around Torges is where Oil of DRCongo will build a port dock to allow for the transportation of materials and production equipment. Similar port facilities will be built on the Ugandan side of the Lake.

Dan Gertler, Senior Advisor to Fleurette Group, said: "Good quality schooling remains a significant challenge in towns and villages in eastern DRC and this new school is a great example of the positive benefits Fleurette and Oil of DRCongo are bringing to this area alongside our investment in oil exploration. Improving the lives of the people in the communities in which the group businesses operate is a crucial part of our approach and Oil of DRCongo has far exceeded its contractual obligations for social projects."
