Open Spatial Inc announces the release of Munsys Query 9.3.2 – providing a read only link between any Oracle GIS data and AutoCAD.

Clearwater, Florida December 7, 2005 – Open Spatial Inc today announced the release of Munsys Query 9.3.2, which permits engineers to retrieve GIS information from Oracle Locator or Spatial directly into AutoCAD.

Munsys Query provides engineers with direct access to the latest GIS information from within a familiar AutoCAD environment. The same seamless Oracle database that is used by the GIS users can be accessed directly (read only) to create CAD drawings containing the latest spatial and attribute information. This information can then be manipulated for design purposes using standard AutoCAD functionality.

Munsys Query 9.3.2 improves upon the initial release by extending the query functionality beyond a Munsys schema to any Oracle schema that contains SDO_GEOMETRY columns. Graphical data can be retrieved as native CAD entities and attributes can be retrieved as Object Data.

Prior to Munsys Query, engineers would typically request a copy of the data from the GIS department. Major difficulties have been experienced with this process because the engineer's copy of the data is quickly outdated. With Munsys Query, engineers can access the data directly with the intuitive Munsys interface whenever they want to refresh the background information.

“The ability to retrieve GIS data directly into an AutoCAD design drawing is critical to an effective engineering design process.” says Lance Maidlow, P.Eng, a co-founder of Open Spatial Inc. “When designers have to go through hoops to get the data, it creates delays and increases both costs and risk. The ability for a designer to refresh the background data at any time eliminates those costly last minute ‘surprises’”

In addition to retrieving drawing information, Munsys Query also permits engineers to browse attribute information and will even retrieve these attributes as Autodesk Map Object Data where they can be used as part of the engineering design.

“Munsys Query is the next step in the Munsys commitment to building a strong bridge between engineering and GIS” stated Chris Tolken, the founder of Munsys. “GIS is a complete life cycle and must be open to all potential users in order for organizations to maximize their return on investment. Munsys Query is an essential enabler in this process by making the spatial data stored in Oracle seamlessly available to designers”
