Tensing USA Announces Five Major Contract Wins

GERMANTOWN, MARYLAND, USA, 24 April 2006 -- Tensing USA today announced that it has won five major new contracts from energy and water utilities to implement products from the Tensing line of mobility solutions. The five utilities are Tacoma Power of Tacoma, Washington; National Grid USA Service Co. of Syracuse, N.Y.; Enbridge Gas Distribution of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Sydney Water Corporation of Sydney, Australia; and Washington Gas of Washington D.C.

Announcing the wins at the GITA Annual Conference in Tampa, Fla., Tensing USA’s Managing Director, Arjan Plomp, said, “The selection of Tensing products by so many large international utilities indicates the Tensing SPY technology is emerging as the industry standard mobile GIS solution for organizations that need to seamlessly link their field personnel with the enterprise geospatial systems.”

Tacoma Power and Washington Gas have each purchased the Tensing SPYder Web GIS product, a low-cost solution that will enable the utilities to display, query and print GIS data over the Internet or intranet. It is designed to address those departments or remote personnel not requiring corporate GIS seats but still needing to display, view, query and control GIS for their own purposes. SPYder Web GIS delivers the total solution for the geo-presentation of digital maps and access to existing corporate GIS applications for the thin-client environment, both internally and externally. With no limitation to hardware, GIS data can now be spatially and textually presented on desktop computers, laptops and personal digital assistants (PDAs).

Sydney Water Corporation, the largest supplier of water in Australia, has selected Tensing SPY LiveConnect from the Tensing SPY .NET suite of mobile products. These products are the first mobile GIS solution completely based on the Microsoft .Net Framework and will run on any Windows-driven device that utilizes the .NET Framework 2.0 or .NET Compact Framework 2.0. Tensing LiveConnect integrates with any dispatching system to extract data related to a specific work order. The utility does not have to worry about security, compression, administration or even practical issues as this solution resolves all of those issues today. Via Tensing LiveConnect, GIS data is provided on a real-time basis and can be supplemented using web services to obtain any back office system data.

“Our SPY .NET suite offers unprecedented flexibility and convenience for users because it integrates four components of the proven SPY technology into a single package that runs in the Windows environment,” said Plomp.

Enbridge and National Grid have both purchased Tensing SPY Mobile GIS, also from the Tensing SPY.NET suite. Tensing SPY Mobile GIS is a robust tool that allows field staff to review, analyze and change up-to-date data in the field. It extends GIS capabilities to crews in the field and gives them access to entire mapping systems on laptop, pen, tablet computers and PDA’s. Data is provided to the crews by extracting data from any corporate GIS database via an extremely fast one-to-one conversion tool that simplifies the presentation of the data. Tensing SPY Mobile GIS allows the customer to define the same application regardless of hardware platform.
