Connecticut's Sixth Largest City Adopts MWH Soft ArcGIS-Centric Modeling Technology

InfoSWMM Will Play Key Role in Improving the City's Wastewater System Integrity, Reliability and Performance

Broomfield, Colorado USA, September 27, 2006 - MWH Soft, a leading global provider of environmental and water resources applications software, today announced that following a competitive review, the Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) for the City of Norwalk, Connecticut, has elected to adopt MWH Soft's industry-leading InfoSWMM Suite ArcGIS-centric (ESRI, Redlands, CA) software. The program will serve as the foundation for developing a comprehensive 20-year master plan for the WPCA's sanitary sewer collection system and optimizing its capital improvement program. The announcement points up MWH Soft's market-leading momentum in advanced geospatial infrastructure modeling solutions in North America.

WPCA provides regional municipal wastewater collection and treatment services on a retail basis to approximately 23,000 customers in the City of Norwalk and on a wholesale basis to the Town of Wilton through an Interlocal Agreement. It also serves additional retail accounts in Westport and Wilton. The Authority oversees the operation and maintenance of an extensive sewer system that includes 180 miles of pipelines, 22 pumping stations, and an 18 million gallon per day (MGD) advanced secondary wastewater treatment plant.

WPCA selected InfoSWMM Suite after an extensive evaluation of competing dynamic wastewater and urban drainage modeling packages. The assessment included a detailed feature/functionality list as well as onsite interviews and presentations by software vendor representatives to key decision makers. The selection confirms the experiences of customers worldwide who are finding MWH Soft advanced geospatial technology to be the most comprehensive and easy-to-use ArcGIS-centric modeling, optimization and management system in the mid-price range, offering broader functionality and a superior solution to those of its competitors.

Built atop ArcGIS with native geodatabase support, InfoSWMM is a full-featured urban drainage and sewer network analysis and design program that delivers the highest rate of return in the industry - making it the ideal choice for organizations that need a complete and powerful sanitary, storm or combined sewer modeling solution. InfoSWMM addresses all the operations of a typical sewer system - from analysis and design to management functions such as water quality assessment, pollution prediction, urban flooding, real-time control, advanced Genetic Algorithm optimization, and recordkeeping - in one intuitive, easy to use and affordable package. It allows engineers to examine backwater effects and reverse flow, trunk sewers, open channels, complex piping connections, and a comprehensive library of ancillary structures using sophisticated real-time controls.

The software delivers world-record performance, scalability, reliability, functionality and flexibility within the powerful ArcGIS environment, completely eliminating the need for inefficient, unreliable data synchronization, synching schemes, or middlelink interfaces required by other software. These factors and more translate to increased productivity, reduced costs, greater efficiency, and improved designs - giving wastewater utilities a clear competitive advantage.

InfoSWMM gives users unprecedented power in managing urban runoff and wet weather water quality problems in combined, sanitary and storm sewers; optimizing BMP and LID designs; and meeting SSO and CSO regulations. The model also offers highly sophisticated Real-Time Control (RTC) schemes for the operational management of wastewater systems and hydraulic structures. It is the world's first and only urban drainage modeling solution certified by the National Association of GIS-Centric Software (NAGCS); its powerful hydraulic computational engine is also endorsed by the USEPA and certified by FEMA.

"The list of reasons we chose InfoSWMM Suite is long and impressive," said Ralph Kolb, WPCA's Wastewater Systems Manager. "They range from its advanced hydraulic computational engine and comprehensive hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and optimization capabilities to its intuitive, easy to use interface, powerful GIS functionality and data management, speed, reliability, versatility, outstanding reputation, and first-class technical support. These factors and more make InfoSWMM Suite a highly sophisticated, multifaceted tool whose stable, seamless ArcGIS-modeling environment will help us optimize our capital improvement program while continuing to give our customers the best long-term value at the lowest possible cost."

"InfoSWMM takes an inherently complicated sewer management activity and makes it easy enough for anyone in the engineering department to construct and calibrate rigorous models and generate reliable solutions," said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, President and COO of MWH Soft. "As a result, wastewater engineers have new power to develop sound, cost-effective capital planning, perfect the management and operation of their sewer systems, and enhance customer relationships. As they realize how much it adds to their bottom line, more and more utilities are turning to this multifaceted product. We are excited that WPCA has adopted InfoSWMM as its geocentric wastewater modeling and design solution, and look forward to being a vital part of its continued efforts to improve the environment."
