Altadyn 3DXplorer Puts Government Networking in 3D

IRVINE, Calif. & PARIS—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 2, 2009— Altadyn, the developer of 3DXplorer®, the first plug-in-less browser-based 3D virtual world creation platform, today announced another expansion in online meeting centers based on the technology. The Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds (FCVW), a group sponsored by the National Defense University’s (NDU) Information Resources Management College (IRMC) went live with a 3DXplorer Meet-in-3D application last week.

Members of the FCVW include staff from federal, state & local, and international government, various 3D vendors, and academics with a common interest in the development and use of Virtual Worlds in government. Dr. Paulette Robinson, Assistant Dean for Teaching, Learning & Technology at the IRMC opened the new website to all members of FCVW as well as to IRMC staff.

A Meet-in-3D website represents a virtual corporate lobby, where online visitors can directly access representatives of an organization. Each online participant is represented by an avatar, which the user can control within the 3D environment.

The Consortium also set up a conference room last week to present webinars using 3DXplorer Online Meeting application. Upon invitation, users meet at the same site for remote conferencing with the complete package of features: desktop sharing, slide presentations, instant messaging, and live conversation through Skype. Users can enter the site immediately through any PC or Mac Internet browser, without the need to install plug-ins or other software.

“When experts from different government agencies come together at formal conferences, you get a natural cross pollination of ideas,” says Darius Lahoutifard, CEO of Altadyn. “With Meet-in-3D, the same quality of interaction and exchange can happen much more frequently, and at almost no cost. In this way, 3DXplorer offers tremendous value in the realms of government and academia. Thanks to higher accessibility and easier deployment of 3DXplorer’s Browser-based plug-in-less technology, we are seeing an increased usage of Virtual Worlds and 3D spaces by the Federal government.”
