Library of Congress Selects NAVTEQ to Provide Map Data and Content

Agreement supports U.S. Congress geospatial research enabling better economic and demographic analysis

Chicago – January 12, 2011– NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, announces its selection by the Library of Congress to provide map data for analysis and research within the Library of Congress’ Congressional Cartography Program (CCP).

The Congressional Cartography Program (CCP) was established in 2002 at the Library of Congress to respond to congressional inquiries and requests for geospatial information regarding legislative issues. The program provides the United States Senate and House of Representatives with geospatial research and analysis in a presentation-ready format allowing Congress to make informed decisions about the implementation of public policy.

“NAVTEQ plays an integral role in helping the Library of Congress meet its mission of making resources available and useful to the Congress and the American people,” said Roy Kolstad, vice president, Enterprise Americas, NAVTEQ. “The NAVTEQ® map is defined by its high level of accuracy, richness of content, rigorous quality testing processes and breadth of coverage meeting the Library of Congress’ requirements."

NAVTEQ map data includes geospatial vector data layers of important value to the Library of Congress including roads, cities, political boundaries, physical features, places, railroads, census boundaries, parks, schools, fire departments, police departments, and hospitals.

The Library of Congress serves as the research arm of Congress, and with millions of books, recordings, photographs, maps and manuscripts in its collections, it is the largest library in the world. Its mission is to make these resources available and useful to the Congress and the American people, as well as to sustain and preserve a universal collection of knowledge and creativity for future generations.
